I already don’t allow any of my TVs to call out and it’s easy to set up.

Use the default TV apps or Apple TV or Google TV, many options. And don’t buy Amazon TV it gets slower over time with tons of bloatware.

It’s incredible how many of these devices there are and yet it’s so rare to find one that isn’t an underpowered POS with a terrible UI.

It’d be great if Nvidia would invest some infinitesimally small portion of the absurd revenue it brings in these days to update the Shield, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

If I could jailbreak my TV so I don’t have to run Roku I’d be very happy. It’s gotten incredibly shitty over the years and I would love to find a dumb TV alternative.

Had 3 boxes for well over a decade for my older un-smart tv’s. Have one left… and that tv’s getting replaced this week. Since I don’t need the Roku boxes… gone.

Damn, for me Roku was standalone alternative to big brothers, like Amazon, Google and Apple. Is there something left on market now? I assume some Android box (not Google TV)? Is there something else?

Did that today. Had two Roku Ultra devices. Factory reset and deleted my account. Fuck Fox.

I used to work for a company that would install home theaters in rich people’s houses, most of these people were old as shit and I would spend hours trying to explain to them how to use these fucking things! „How do I turn on Fox News!“ Meanwhile I’m just fuming inside thinking about how the hell these people live like this. They spend $40,000 to install this beautiful home movie theater just to watch Hannity! You’re retired you live in a giant house located off the coast of a lake that you can go and ride around on your $100,000 boat, yet this is what you choose to spend most of your fucking time doing it’s maddening!

One of mine has stopped getting updates, now apps are slowly breaking as they lose compatibility. The other device is fine but likely to be replaced with AppleTV when the new models comes out.

We should just cancel all streaming services at this point. Time to get back into exploring hobbies. Especially reading.

I got one about a year ago and it rocks. You can have your photos be screen savers. Enough storage for a million apps. My only complaint is I don’t have a Mac, I can’t side load stuff easily like other android streaming devices.

Then I’ll still be paying them up the vine through five companies they own that makes my fucking bag of chips but without the mind numbing entertainment I need to forget I’m doing that.

is there any smart tv device that doesn’t suck? got a chrome tv, it’s slow. got a shield tv, it over heats and stops working. got an apple tv, wouldn’t work with my optical audio nor my bluetooth audio connectivity with my sound bar properly. got a tv with built in android tv, it’s unbearably slow. now my roku is going to shit too? what do I have to do in 2026 to get a tv i don’t have to have daily struggles with??
