How does something this dumb get past paper let along a working product without someone saying what a bad idea it is?

Not gonna lie, this looks very much like what nazis used to make by the end of the war, when they have lost access to many of the resources necessary to make the good stuff. I can easily picture some Volkssturm dude holding one. You know, about two weeks before Hitler decided he was too much of a coward to take accountability.

Is this real? Like, is the a real idea a person had? And they thought this was a good idea?

Reading into it, its a low powered, single shot shotgun intended for anti-drone use.
Ngl considering what we hear about swarms of drones, I doubt this’ll do much so their response is pretty valid.

Why would anyone need a single shot shotgun? Shotguns that fire multiple times already exist

i just cannot believe in the entirety of the Russian war industry, there es not an extant design for a cheap pump action shotgun. like if any western country needed shotguns for ad hoc drone defense they would have a million mossberg 500 by the end of the week,

2 kilos for a single.shot? Lol

Aside from the special made ammo being fired from rifles, a couple of these on an atv could come in handy as a last line of defense.
Article uses a lot of “they say this” and “it’s reported they said” but no examples or names

I’m no expert but to me this looks like a patchjob „solution“ that lets some paper pusher tell his boss that they’re dealing with the drone problem. On top of the obvious graft that lets some company make bank selling these things.

>Critics argue that adding 1.8 kilograms of equipment to a soldier’s kit for a single-shot weapon is impractical for modern battlefield conditions.
This would seem to be self-evident, but if it isn’t evident to Russian arms manufacturers, that’s just fine by me.

if it is good for suicide, give one to each russian soldier.

I’ve laughed at a lot of Russian and Iranian weapons and then saw the west copy them 6 months later in this war. I guess this would be useful for those last couple minutes when the drone is circling and you are trying to dodge? Everyone has one?
Looks like the US LAW but it’s a shotgun for drones?

I wouldn’t say it is that stupid. Problem for Russians: Ukrainian drones are killing Russian soldiers. Obviously they don’t have direct defense measures like lasers or something. So those stupid rat shot bullets or 12 gauge. But the soldier is already carrying his rifle, so he needs something light as back up.
IMO the Russian way of doing it would have been just abandon 7.62×39 and 5.45×39, just equip your soldiers with shotguns and slugs and birdshot. Makes logistics easier and the soldiers are dead man walking anyway.

I’ve been saying for a while now, that the Russian military would save so much money if they pivoted to having a fully remote workforce. Instead of transporting troops all the way to the frontline, just deliver direct to them at home. The soldier recives a small payment and this single shot gun, and then they shoot themselves in the head at home.
It is still the same outcome as Russia’s current tactics.

That alone is enough to disqualify it as a serious weapon, let alone vs. agile targets like drones.
