Such a non-story. They said they’d recover it by deducting 5 cents per month for the next 4 months. What’s the issue?

All of this commotion over 20 cents? Come on now

Isn’t the system automation or something when asking for repayments?

if the cost of administration is greater than the amount it should be written off (especially if it was the governments error). That $2 threshold needs to be re-evaluated. That said, $0.20! Give me a break lady, on the exact same premise!

Tape 20 cents to the letter, repack the envelope, scrawl RTS on it.

You have to wonder how much is spent trying to collect these minimal fines. I worked for a large company a decade ago and they had a policy not to chase amounts owing of $25 or less because it wasn’t worth it.

Jeezus even the CRA has a cut-off of $2 or less

Sum up the government way of doing things: spend a dollar to fix a penny 🥱

It cost more money in paper and ink and postage then the 20 cent. What a great use of ressources.

Time for some malicious compliance. She should ask to set up a payment plan and let them know it would cause undue hardship to pay off the debt all at once. Of course this should have never happened but going to the media is absolutely ridiculous…what an idiot.

*She calls the repayment demand „ridiculous“ and says the experience has been stressful for her.*
Stressed about what? It’s 20 cents. Send a cheque and move on with your life?
Should the letter have been sent? No. But stressing out about being asked to pay 20 cents is silly. I’d have paid it, laughed at the stupidity, and then quickly forgotten about it.

I got one for a $0.42 repayment of the child tax benefit. Which was funny because they’re the ones who tell me how much I get. So they „garnished“ my next child tax credit for repayment. Lol.
