    1. (Full text of the article): „The division of the Department of Justice that was supposed to have handled President Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS—and the subsequent settlement that created a slush fund for his allies—claims to have no communication records related to it.

Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington, a progressive watchdog organization, filed a Freedom of Information request with the DOJ, and in response, they were told that the DOJ “did not locate the case you have cited” within the DOJ’s Civil Division’s case management system.

“We have further inquired with Civil Division staff in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, and they have advised that they are not aware of any responsive records within the Civil Division pertaining to the case you have cited. Accordingly, we have located no responsive records,” wrote Brian Flannigan, division counsel for records and information in the DOJ, in a response letter.

Trump, his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, and the Trump Organization sued the IRS in January for $10 billion damages over the leak of their tax returns by a former IRS contractor during Trump’s first term. A settlement was reached last month that created a $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund for anyone who believes they were unfairly prosecuted for their political beliefs, essentially the president’s allies who were prosecuted under the Biden administration. As part of the settlement, the IRS also pledged not to audit the Trump family or businesses now or at any point in the future.

The case of the president essentially suing an agency in his own government was controversial enough, but the settlement was heavily criticized, not only for the creation of a slush fund for Trump to disperse to his allies, but also for protecting the Trumps and their assets from ever facing scrutiny over their taxes.

The fact that the DOJ claims to have no records relating to communication about the settlement suggests that they are either lying, or that negotiations were conducted outside of the legal bodies that should have handled them. All of this is yet more proof of Trump using the presidency to settle grievances, enrich himself and his family, and disregard the law at the same time at the expense of the American people.“

    2. Well maybe they can find the other 3million Epstein videos/pics/files taking up terabytes while they look for it

This whole scheme was completely at odds with the constitution.

It amounted to a level of corruption you would expect of a king or a dictator.

And here I thought MAGA was opposed to „handouts“ and „reparations?“

Ahh, not when those reparations are for white people huh?

And while it’s obvious that this „settlement“ was strictly supposed to benefit Trump, his family, his criminal associates and radical supporters, it also served a different purpose.

Bribery, of course. All slush fund activity was to be done in secret; obscured in darkness. No oversight, no transparency, no accountability.

This also incentivized Trump’s violent followers and his lawless cohorts to not only commit crimes with impunity, but to eventually get PAID for it!

It also was meant to help legitimize conspiracy theories about January 6th, as well as Trump’s lies about the 2020 election.

      HOW IT WENT DOWN:

Trump was a private citizen when he first filed damages claims against the individual responsible for leaking his tax information.

The leak divulged that Trump is a tax evader.

This is precisely why he broke with presidential tradition and did not release the information himself, even though he pledged otherwise.

That individual was convicted and sent to prison, but when Trump became president, he tried to settle the matter again with HIMSELF by filing another lawsuit seeking $10 billion in damages. Un-fucking-precedented!

Trump’s own DOJ, which serves at his behest, was supposed to DEFEND the IRS, not work in tandem with the president to negotiate on his behalf.

What isn’t being discussed enough is the process by which a blatantly unlawful, and ludicrous $10 billion dollar lawsuit turned into an „anti-weaponization“ fund paid for by the American taxpayer.

The judge in the case argued that it had no legs because it lacked „adverseness“ and was constitutionally invalid.

There was no dispute between parties because Trump was opposing himself.

      > „There must be an honest and actual antagonistic assertion of rights by one individual against another, which is neither feigned nor collusive.“

The judge gave Trump and his attorneys a deadline to explain themselves.

      They couldn’t…

So two days before that deadline, Trump dropped the suit to avoid the judge ruling that the whole case was unconstitutional.

The judge was about to pull the rug out from Trump when his own DOJ negotiated the $1,776 BILLION „settlement“ to avoid this.

The case had no ground to stand on, but Todd Blanche and Trump’s corrupt DOJ found a way around that by concocting a scheme to create a confidential slush fund for his corrupt cohorts and his violent followers at the taxpayer’s expense.

And if Trump was the supposed victim of the tax leak, why are others getting a payout?

Because the judge was about to rule that Trump couldn’t sue his own government. The case was going to die. Trump would have nothing to show for it.

He couldn’t take the money himself because it would amount to a clear cut violation of the Emoluments Clause, for which Trump would face impeachment.

So instead, the „settlement“ was restructured so that, on its face, Trump receives no money but gets in return:

Immunity from the IRS; barring the agency from auditing him, his family, his trusts and businesses.

And of course, $1.776 billion flowing to a slush fund he secretly controls. A fund run by a commission that his own AG appoints and can fire at will.

All in all, it was the most egregious misuse of tax dollars and the most corrupt act committed by a president in modern history.

At what point do the people realize we aren’t getting this country back?

    5. TheGOPisTheDeepState on

DOJ we’ve deleted all everything and investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing. The Republican Party is the most corrupt party by a landslide.

    6. Autodidact2 on

Wow. Just another scandal that would have brought down a president back in the day when we have standards and it barely merits a headline.

Lost like those hidden portions of the Epstein files that they unlawfully haven’t released!

I hope that Trump lives another ten years and that the bulk of those years should be him either in court or prison or both.

Am I missing something… If there is no record of the settlement, then it doesn’t exist, right? There’s no slush fund. There’s no IRS immunity for Trump.

The Supreme Court said a president couldn’t be prosecuted for official acts. That same Supreme Court is going to decide which of Trump‘s actions are official acts. Ultimately he’s going to die before those cases even get to court. So he is going to take as much as he possibly can on the way out, and leave it to his family. None of them are hiding it, it’s right out in everybody’s faces. Nobody is doing, or likely going to do anything about it apparently.

It’s annoying to give a shit, man. At this point it’s really tough not to turn fully into apathy.

Sounds like all activity should be halted and a third party forensic team hired to provide a public testimony and report is required.
