    1. Poor Julie. Stuck at home in rainy Wicklow with the local lads & expensive booze, while Deirdre is drinking and shagging her way around Valencia.

Funny, my Spanish classes told me I’d be writing postcards about my well-paid employment as an au pair and my deep interest in architecture

I know I was sending similar texts on my first holidays away from Mam and Dad!

I hope Julie and Deirdre are still mates and still good craic in their 50s.

That’s hilarious. I also feel like the idea of Spain or foreign countries in the early 90s had that extra bit of mystic energy about them. Nowadays we see it all online all the time and can catch a flight much easier etc. This postcard invokes a certain sense of wonder even if it’s just about pulling boys and cheap vodka 😂

Deirdre had no recollection of this trip apart from this postcard.

So Julie hid the saucy postcard from her parents pretty well, then!

Is £2 not expensive for a vodka 35 years ago?hah

Anyway r/foundpaper might like to see this.

If this goes up on the Wicklow Town Facebook forum you’ll definitely find them!

    9. Can the OP at least give the town in Wicklow? Love to hear if anybody know Julie and Deirdre

Julie was so scared her parents would find it that she stuffed it in the attic insulation.

    11. Read this in a strong North Dublin accent, no idea why.

But by the sounds of things, Julie missed out on a great trip.

ha cool I found something like this in my own house that was sent from USSR East Germany of a visitor that had apparently stayed in my home. Funnily enough they talked about getting a swall on as well

    13. The whole „drinking at 16“ thing was so alien and amazing to us teenagers in the 90s

    14. Aww that’s brilliant. I love finding old postcards, ones I got over the years. It was always hard to think what to say when sending them, a few lines in a small space, but I loved doing it. Yes, I’m old! Although I wasn’t sending them in 1970. 😁

Anyone know a Deirdre that no longer can stomach Vodka. It was from years ago in Spain…….

    16. My cousin is named Julie, and she has a good friend named Deirdre. The family used to live in Wicklow as well. I’ll shoot my cousin a message.

This is Benidorm. A large vodka doesn’t cost that much more now 😂

    18. Haha my mom sold our childhood home in wicklow town recently and she has a friend called deirdre, no idea if she likes vodka though. Very fun find!

Love this. Deirdre sounds like great craic. I hope they got to go on a boy-filled, alcohol-fuelled holiday together!
