      It’s still early days for this tech. Right now its maximum output is 800W, which is not a lot. OP mentions this delivering 3kWh on a typical day, about 10% of a typical US household’s consumption.

      But it’s the direction of travel that is interesting here. This will get better, and cheaper. Then systems like it will be able to deliver 25% of daily consumption, then half. All with affordable systems you can install and set up yourself.

      Many people have nightmares about dystopian and apocalyptic futures. I would feel safer in a world where electricity production was decentralized and could survive major disasters.

      Just reading that made me feel tired, the amount of hours the author spent (I would say wasted but let’s be charitable) on a device with a maximum 800w supply. Wires running everywhere, panels laid out on a balcony to be blown around by the weathet, a sketchy looking inverter + battery with a surprisingly high price tag. Please.. just pay an installer for a reliable quality professional array that is certified by the Network Operator. You could build a refrigerator put of 100 peltiers and a cooler box… but should you?

      It may not be a system for a lot of houses in the United states. But it’s perfect for something like an RV? Or hunting cabins or people who really want to go camping in style. If I had a quarter of a million dollars I would be importing them with a few changes and marketing them to RV dealerships. If somebody wants to take that idea and run with it it would be good for the world in general

      Back feeding your electrical system is dangerous. I used to sell portable generators to people who would then plug them into their dryer or stove outlets during power failures. This works, for the most part, until the power comes back on. Also, you need to shut off the mains to you box or you risk injuring anyone not expecting power to be coming backwards through the system. And in some cases back feeding your power system can also feed power to an unsuspecting neighbor. Probably not with this setup, but energizing wires from an unexpected direction is always a bad idea.

      Can someone explain how much 800 watts is? Can I run a (gaming) laptop off of that? Could it charge a battery system and then use that battery for things like hot plates and ovens once a day? Or could it run a space heater?
