    1. whilst i understand that a city must live and change and not all of the old buildings can remain standing, i think the worst way to do so is to build high rising concrete office buildings. especially when they replace something more ornamental and especially when the ugliness is supposed to be partly the point of the architecture. further more it is sometimes shocking to which degree city planners have no taste in aesthetic things and let themselves be convinced a beige concrete box made only out of sharp boxy shapes is really the thing that we need. only worse thing i can imagine is building a huge parking lot in the place of a historic building, oh wait.

      modern versions of these nonsensical building styles would be the galerie Lafayette building. sure it’s modern looking, but i don’t think it fits at all with the historic city vibe and it made the bus traffic a real pain in the butt
