Damn, almost every country where there are no Christians is inhabited by Muslims. To avoid having to deal with these two religions, which I particularly like, I’ll have to go and live in Thailand.

I was a bit surprised by Turkey. After all, there has always been a remnant of the historical Christian population. There is even still an orthodox patriarchate in Istanbul (nominally superior to the others). But I had no idea their number had dwindled so much.

Conversely, Oman for example apparently has Christian expats working there (mainly from India), and also in Libya there is a Christian population just big enough to reach the 1% threshold.

    3. How did you obtain those figures? In Tunisia, religion is not officially recorded or disclosed, so there is no reliable way to know the exact numbers. These data are not collected by the government or any official organization.

Christianity has been in Thailand since 16th century with relatively mild suppression yet it never really took hold. An interesting case to be sure.

Parts of Vietnam are surprisingly quite Christian. Places like Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Nghe An are full of Catholic Churches. Contrary to popular belief these communities actually predate French colonization too.

    6. Where does the percentage of Christians in Saudi Arabia come from? There aren’t even any churches there.

You know whats funny? The top colleges in Bangladesh are Christian Missionary colleges (Notre dame for boys, Holy cross for girls, and Saint joseph’s)

      ゴメンな、日本人て行事ごとにパートタイム宗派なんで。

    9. How old is this? It’s been more than 1% for nearly 2 decades in Nepal. Unless you’re only counting certain sects of Christianity

Turkey used to have a larger Christian population but they were genocided.

Didn’t realize Thailand was less than 1%. Crazy how I had two drivers and a tour guide who were Christian. What were the chances?

    12. Back in my marist school there was a marist brother who did missionary work living in bangladesh with christian community there and it was my first exposition to that country

      Wonder how they ae doing

    13. No one can really know in places where a religion like Christianity is violently repressed. Iran. Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia. Yemen. North Korea etc. There is no way to know because any actual Christian is incentivised (by state violence) to not declare their religion.

    14. Somalis are still paranoid about people trying to convert them to Christianity though lol.

In Jordan some of the Christians here like joking about how they’re going to hell 🥀

      We love em though

Never ask a Jordanian how he feels about Shias though

This map is useless… are there any countries with both christ and musli populations are less than 1%?

    17. Why is Thailand on this map? Estimates on their Christian population vary, but they vary from like 1.1-1.4%

    18. If this map is projecting figures with added percentage of demographic, consisting of expatriate christian foreign workers and temporary christian residents, then it may have to be corrected to show only their native-born christian citizens.
