      The complaints are embarrassing but it doesn’t seem like they’re dishing out fines just telling her to change a few words.

      The extremes that these OQLF inspectors go to is insane 😂

      They are the most mission driven « public servants » on the planet. They eat, breathe and sleep separatism.

      Every English word eliminated from an establishment is a monumental victory to them.

      The language police are a joke. Total waste of money.

      Just require all children within Quebec to take French in school, require all immigrants to take an evening French language course and then let it go.

      Going around fining small businesses because they have 3 signs that say coffee and only 2 that say café or something is absurd. I’ve heard of people getting in trouble for writing work emails to people in another country in English and not including any French. They don’t speak French in that country…

      No one likes the language police.

      I don’t understand Quebec, how insular they are compared to France itself. Like they would rather not have the business than deal with customers in English. I tried to book a private surgery at a Montreal clinic that has an English website. The admins would not answer my questions in English. Like why are you advertising for patients with an English website? I don’t think the doctor owner knows his staff are sabotaging him. In Europe they reply to your queries in the language you asked it in. They’re proud of being bilingual and trilingual there.

      She’s given some really picky examples, which could be true or an exaggeration.

      What’s easy to spot though is the giant sign on the picture in the article where it says SoLIT Café, At Mary’s Place.

      That’s probably what triggers the complaints, and then they find smaller details because you can’t just half-ass a job. Also doesn’t seem like they issued any fine.

      This is state-sponsored “azzholes”. This is successive governments elected by a majority of the population voting for and endorsing official government policy that enshrines “azzhole-ism” into the law of the land.

      Don’t minimize what they’re doing to the anglophone minority. Because anyone who does that would make themselves an “azzhole”, right?

      I feel like she knew what she had to do and half assed it as much as she could and is shocked Picchu face that the French take their language seriously. And they should. If the English had their way we wouldn’t have french as a second language. That’s speaking as someone who is from the English side and even though I took French until grade 9 I doubt I could have a basic conversation in French. Most of my French teachers didn’t even speak French in class.

      If they don’t fight to keep a standard of French then they will slowly lose it in more of the major cities and on and on.

      Maybe if the English parts of Canada protected the English language the same way there wouldn’t be such a huge devide between everyone. For example in places like lower mainland Vancouver area with whole areas that you can barely find English and if you do it’s a fraction of the size of the dominant language in the area, with many people permanently living here that can’t communicate with each other. I am not anti immigration but I do think that we have systematically messed up the immigration system for decades to the point that it’s hard for their not to be people who are looking for a outlet for their frustrations and it’s a easy place to put them.

      If she did it right the first time it wouldn’t have been that way. If you spend thousands *redesigning* materials and signage then that just means you half-assed it the first time. Her „chicken nachos“ is a good example. You shouldn’t have to be told that it’s in english. Also, it should be „nachos au poulet“ not „nachos de poulet“ like she translated it.

      I’ll grant her though that, if true, the OQLF clerk asking her to translate „nachos“ is ridiculous…

      But you don’t get 22 complaints over this.

      She’s mentioning examples that look ridiculous, but the fact is that she advertised on social media only in English and customers have a hard time being served in French at her café.
