My Basket is decent stuff for single people or working couples. It scratches the itch a convenience store can’t. But there isn’t really a lot of competition in that space as far as I have experienced in Tokyo. Lawson 100 or maybe the Picolo? My only beef with them is they are slightly overpriced and not a huge selection. No matter which one you go to they are going to have the same stuff.

LIFE better not go anywhere. It’s the only place that has anything decent. Everywhere else in my immediate surroundings caters to people who live off of tamagokakegohan and moyashi.

LIFE has the best fresh food by far. I love it there.

My Basket is the worst choice for groceries in my area. It’s not even in a much more convenient location. It’s just more expensive, with less selection, and for what? That being said I did frequent Maruetsu Petit in my old neighborhood because it was much more conveniently located than the larger grocery stores.

As soon as they took the ATMs out of most of the my baskets I stopped going.
I would go a little out of my way because they do no fees no upcharge on foreign cards for ATM withdrawals for aeon ATMs, and out of the 5 my baskets in my area they took the ATM out of 4 of them.

Personally I think My Basket is more prominent in urban Tokyo while if you go more suburban, you’ll definitely find a lot more of Life and other supermarkets.

I’ve never seen whatever this article is talking about. Neither has my Japanese partner.

Never seen any mini-markets in the Kansai area. We have lots of 業務スーパー though. (a lot more than Kanto)
I guess it makes sense, since people here are a lot poorer on average.
