For once someone did an actual art piece instead of covering the train car in dumb tags and that somehow triggered you to complain about it?
You have some strange moral values

This one is not so bad (meaning, whoever did it wanted to express something).

What even is this thing? Where’s the important data? How much toxic shit are people going to inhale and how much money will be wasted removing all this trash?

I don’t mind at all when it’s well done, and it often is.
But please, practice on a shed somewhere first. There’s a guy that makes 3mx2m toddler drawings on my regular train, so sad… And maybe don’t cover the windows?

The guillotine is a symbol for NMBS dying due lack of subsidies. Kind of art with a meaning.

I don’t understand the reasons why people do lots of things, like getting a place with a yard and then putting it full of tiles, eating fermented fish, or going to IKEA on a Saturday for fun.

People do graffiti on trains to get a big audiënce, alot of people ride trains and trains pass alot of places. It’s to be seen. Getting up in graffiti means getting your name out there and be vieuwed by as many eyes.

Graffiti is flaunting, exhibtionism (without the sexual nature).
You want people to see (although they don’t understand), but mostly you want other graffiti-makers to see what you’ve done, where you dared to go, while wondering how long it’s going to stay before someone else tags along.
It’s basically a way to show the world „*I am here, see ?*“, except the world reacts with „*what the fuck is this shit?*“

I like it. I remember when I used to commute by train everyday, it made life a little bit less boring. As long as they’re colorful and not covering the windows, I’m supportive.
Edit: I noticed they did cover the windows there :/

My problem with grafitti on trains is it covers up information that can be of actual safety importance for the people working in the trainyards, and when done on passenger carriages it can deprive passengers of natural light.
If you have the time to cover a whole locomotive like in the picture, you can also use some masking tape.

Personal opinion: I like graffiti on trains. As long as it doesn’t cover up important information and covers windows. My main problem is that *most* graffiti is just, like others have said, lines that could have been drawn by a toddler. If the graffiti is pretty/a nice artwork it makes the trains very unique, transporters of art which makes life a lot brighter instead of all trains looking the same, a little boring.
And ngl the image you posted is one of the pretty ones lol

So.much so that some actually look better with gravity that juat the boring white bricks wjth some red and yellow.
I would honestly care more if they still had their beautiful only bordeaux and gold livery.

The NMBS would be better off having the trains spray-painted by young talent. Then they would have control over it and the trains would look much nicer.

It´s like asking a reason for art. There isn´t. It´s just a bunch of adults (mostly male) having fun and have their name spread. Funny to see lots of writers start early, around 15-16 years old, only for a few years. After that they stop for a while and start again by the age of 30-35.
This + Belgium is a absolute hotspot in northern Europe. Like ten/fifteen years ago it was harder to paint a train then it is today. Some places you can just walk up on the trains and paint them during daytime. Our neighbouring countries also have a big rise in security, so lots of foreigners come and paint in Belgium.
Let´s say i know a guy who did it a lot 15 years ago, and when he painted trains they got removed after 2 or 3 days. These days they almost don´t remove anything anymore because NMBS stopped caring. Which is good!

I sometimes find them quite impressive but I am really having difficulty to understand the motivation behind it. Because the materials they are using is not cheap more over the effort sometimes can take days. Just to express yourself it is huge effort.

People often spray graffiti on trains for the thrill, visibility, status within the graffiti scene, and because a moving train shows their work to many people.
