      He already starred in a spy thriller that stole my heart so he’s good on that end.

      He’s probably the only black man audiences WOULD go for. Everyone jokes „put Idris Elba“ in it but it’s from a place of respect I feel, not because he’s unfit for it.

      The only legitimate reason I’ve seen for him not being fit for the role is his age and the fact they would 100% want to squeeze out as many movies as possible for the next Bond so they would definitely go for someone younger likely in their 20s-early 30s

      15 years ago? I think people absolutely would have been down for Idris. I would have.

      This has nothing to do with Craig to be clear. I loved him. I’m just saying prime Idris was awesome. He’s awesome now… just too old for Bond.

      The only real problem is that you need someone way younger that can stay on the franchise for 10 years

      He’s not wrong. Hate to say it but he isn’t wrong. Theres a healthy portion of the fandom that just won’t go for it.

      Idris Elba would have been a great Bond, but Daniel Craig was being changed because he was getting too old, and Idris is no younger.

      I’m a huge fan of the Bond films and I’d have loved to see him portray Bond. But I also know that there are certain ignorant elements of the audience that will decry any black person playing a role previously played by a white person.

      Audiences did not go for a short, blonde, blue-eyed Bond too, until they saw Casino Royale. Daniel Craig made it his and became arguably the best or second best Bond in franchise history.

      I absolutely taught Idris Elba could have been a great Bond. Though I can’t compare him to Daniel Craig in acting skill, he certainly is a better actor than some of the former bonds and he certainly brings the effortless cool Bond demands, with him.

      But the moment has passed. He’s right in the sense that he was never a legit candidate as long as Craig kept playing the role and now that he has retired the role, Elba is too old to play him, just like Craig is.

      I think he would make a tremendous bond.

      I’ve never gotten the appeal of Bond and don’t see why people are so nuts to have a versatile actor waste his time doing another one.

      This whole rumour is so weird. Why doesn’t it ever die? Aside from the fact that he’s never been in the running (and too some degree the fact that he’s black) he is mainly too old.

      I’d go for it.

      We have a Bond who looks like a KGB spy related to Putin for years.

      We can deal with a black one.

      I think it was way more realistic than he thinks, and most people would be happy to see the role well played regardless of race. But there would also be predictable whining and outrage from the usual idiotic suspects.

      I don’t see why not. I’ve been watching Bond movies since I was a kid, and I was always under the assumption that both “James Bond” and “007” were codenames used by various MI6 agents as a standard identity protector. I mean, Connery, Moore, Dalton, Lazenby, and Craig all brought completely different takes on the character.

      I’m a massive bond fan, have been since I was 5. I would have LOVED to have seen him play bond. He would have crushed it

      I still loved the idea that James Bond was a code name not a birth name. That way anyone could be Bond, and I love the potential for a former bond actor to turn bad and to face off with the current bond.

      Ok so bond can be short and blonde but not black……America has denzel Washington…..uk has Idris Elba….. pisses me off badly as he would literally be amazing in the role

      Not true. He’s just too old now. I thought Denzel would have been an amazing bond but that ship has also sailed
