Meta was a big player in Brexit and onboard with the first Trump administration from the start.

At no point has Mark Zuckerberg – king of social media, if we are being honest – displayed any interest in social *responsibility*.

It’s because they know they can just bribe Trump to get what they want.

    3. If only there was someone working there who could be the voice of reason, rather than jumping ship when things got hard.

Of course they do. It’s all about
deregulation and tax exemptions for the rich.

No shit. We saw them at Trump’s inauguration Elon Musk lived in the Oval Office for like 6 months. Why the fuck is this masquerading as news?

    6. This guy helped legitimise Meta for years, and now he’s criticising them? What a tool.

Trump destroys lives. Silicon Valley destroys lives.

Decades ago, they were innovators. Today they are anti-American criminals.

MAGA was just rebranding propertied white male hegemony. As long as the oligarchs can keep convincing the lower 90% that the real problem is immigrants, trans folks, etc., the rich can keep exploiting everybody.

    9. I mean, of course they did.

Trump is 90% of the president that they want. They want someone who is for the wealthy, for economic growth at any cost, and can be bought with cheap trinkets and hollow praise with maybe some „gifts“ to himself and his family/friends.

The only thing he is fucking up for them is the horrible geopolitical decisions that are going to ultimately impact them before they can get their bunkers built and robot armies in position to fend off the hordes of the underclass that they’ve created and that they are actively working against.

    10. Palantir UK CEO is named Mosley? This shit writes itself.

Oh he’s the actual grandson of Oswald Mosley for fuck’s sake.

    11. I don’t give a fuck what this shill says. He fucked over a generation or more of UK kids to get a tiny sniff of power. Absolute knob.

    12. From the guy who destroyed his own political party by joining a coalition government and betraying the people who voted for him and being a warmonger like Blair.

Then going to work for EvilCorp.

He’s another one that should be in prison not living the highlife earning millions by flogging his titles and previous jobs to the highest bidder!

like this wasn’t obvious in 2020 fucking 4??????
some of them just wanted to be pragmatic about the election outcome I think. But give it time. they have no spines and they’ll all move away from it.

    14. Tech corps embrace whatever politicians are currently in power and gets them more money. That’s it and that’s all. Path of least resistance to money.

Nick, no offense but given your track record of unintended consequences and benefitting the right by mistake, I dont think you are helping.

But maybe what will be what finally ends this madness is Nick Clegg embracing the right and shiftly it falls apart.

    16. Dragonfly_pin on

And how could he possibly have known any of this while he was working for them?

What a shock it must have been once he left with all his money from working for them for years and suddenly had the revelation that they hadn’t been very nice after all.

They think we are all incredibly stupid.

      >Clegg, who spent nearly seven years at [Meta](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/meta) as the head of global affairs, told The Rest is Money podcast that it felt like “a very good time for me to move on” when he left the company in March 2025, three months into the second Trump administration.

Let’s all reminisce on the fact that he joined in 2018, *after* the news broke about Cambridge Analytica.

*After* Myanmar’s Rohingya massacres, and South Sudan.

*After* Facebook’s real name policy and the way it threatened people’s safety.

*Way after* it was made abundantly clear all the ways Facebook monetizes user data.

So while Clegg may be right, there’s no reason to trust his judgment ever again.

Well yeah there’s no laws or oversight and all you have to do for a favorable ruling/contract/tax break is manipulate a dementia ridden narcissist AKA our president with some flattery and a quick crypto bribe and you’re free to loot the taxpayers with the rest of the GOP.

    19. Maga isn’t giving them enough credit. They’re into authoritarian techno feudalism

    20. Sober_Alcoholic_ on

I guarantee another reason why tech is so hellbent on forcing AI through, is because with most AI being unable to effectively replace our labor right now, we still hold that final card that scares them.

General strike. withdraw our labor and tax dollars from the system and billionaires will be forced to make concessions.

If they get AI good enough, quick enough, we lose our last remaining card and officially have no recourse but to be nickled and dimed to death while working ourselves to an early grave while owning nothing.

Clock is ticking for us. Am I the only one that sees the ominous, dark undertones of all of this? As in, normal working people are about to be relegated to the bottom of the new oligopoly caste system? Fuck me.
