For those who don’t want to waste their time: yes it’s jamming GNSS and not only GPS
Tldw: the original discovery team thinks it’s Russia and China testing their capabilities to jam positioning systems, but another researcher thinks it’s too common for that and it could be coded transmissions.
Has someone calculated if these satellites can feasibly be able to sustain the power output for more than the few seconds that were recorded?

As much as I love Veritasium, I’m really getting tired of their video formats recently. It just sounds like someone padding content just for the sake of having a longer video.

For one, I could have told you it was Russia just by looking at the title of the video. But then the actual mystery part is like the last 20% of the video. The rest is just explaining GPS to people who’ve never thought about it before. I get that YouTube rewards watch time and accessibility but it feels like every video has to start from zero no matter what the topic is.

At this point I’m beginning to think that they’ll start to shoot down satellites if Russia or other countries start jamming from space.
Went in thinking it would be a Russian satellite in a Molniya Orbit. Found out it was a Russian satellite in a Molniya orbit.
The hypothesis of the second team is more plausible than the first team made. Of course it could be dual-use if they wanted to, but primarily I think encrypted communication over GNSS bandwidths makes sense. If an enemy wanted to jam this communication they would have to shoot themselves in the foot too.
