This recently happened to someone I know. Was some fun drama haha. But they settled it amongst themselves without involving the court.

Crazy the spouses lover had to pay and not the ex spouse. Seems kinda backwards to me.

As someone who lives in Japan, people will absolutely do this. It’s not a rare thing.

I live in Japan and one of my best friends here was engaged to a Japanese man. The guy was cheating on her with a married lady, also Japanese. The husband figured it out and requested 5 million yen in damages. The ex of my friend paid because they didn’t want to go to court.
Nowadays the ex is still with the same lady because, roughly quoting, he has paid so much money for it that now he needs to make it worth it.
I am glad he is miserable, tbh.

    4. This is not unique to Japan.

It is a tort in the common law tradition called “alienation of affection.”

Cheating have been common for decades in Japan, suing your lover is one way to make money, now you know why people nowadays don’t want to get married,

So if Aiko is married to takamura and I start banging Aiko, takamura can sue me for banging Aiko? Did I understand that correctly? What if I didn’t know Aiko was married?

My doctor student was a having a fling with his office staff girl and his wife hired a detective to follow them.. She got sued..

He had to go to her parent’s house and apologize.. They were very wealthy ( had started an air conditioner company or something similar)
