What happens on the border between areas? Do you accidentally go for the left and the other guy goes for the right and you kiss?
Now that’s the maps I subbed here for
Living in northern France close to the belgian border, everytime I say hello to a Belgian person we end up almost smooching.
And on the border, you kiss on the lips
In Québec, „la bise“ is always to the left and both cheeks. My wife’s family from western France always go right. Can create an awkward moment.

Different regions have different number of kisses.

This could just be a graph of how Fr*nch „people“ interpret left and right in kissing. Is it my left or your left?

Wrong. In belgium (south + brussels) it is just the right cheek

As an American who screws this up every time I visit Switzerland Ive learned to just go for a handshake.
It’s so horrible when you’re socialised to start on a certain side (left in my case) and then meet someone who does it the other way round.
French kissing at the borders?
Luxembourg is three times, starting with right.
Next map: how many cheek kisses. I live in a border region, this is always a tricky one. 2 or 3?
Here in Hungary we solve this problem by kissing both sides
Belgian here. Everybody i know do right first.
