Vancouver runs yet another real estate sales promotion event at public expense.

Locals see no long term benefit.

      Repeat.

The only client that our governments serve are business interests, so FIFA is a win even though it is taxpayers who will pay the cost, but that doesn’t matter as long as business makes profits at the taxpayer trough.

Also that history involved actual host cities, Vancouver is not quite 1/3rd of a host city, most World Cup host cities for instance host the final game of the World Cup Tournament.

    4. Because economics is an axiomatic field, that is, they work outwards from a conclusion, there always seems to be a lot of motivated reasoning with many econmists, and much of their funding models rely on industry and interested parties. It’s the only field with a worse reproducibility record than psychology, which economics turned to to provide „rigour“ to their profoundly unempirical ideology.

When the historical record contradicts what certain economists or politicians are promising (even when backed up by tautological calculations), it should always be taken with a stadium full of salt.
