It literally is. Our tourism industry will do absolutely anything for money.

    2. Would someone think about the poor Italians? The poor Italians that also hosted Jeff Bezos wedding too. In Venice. Seems that money was good then and money is good now.

😂 Getting married in Italy has to be a significant contributor of their GDP. Don’t even try to pretend you’re not taking that check lads.

Italians whining about they couldn’t make photos for Instagram. Affected locals got 5000 £. Renting the square was 10.000 £. Private Security patrolled the street.
      Bezos: ~50.000.000$ Venice.
      Lipa: 2.000.000$ Palermo

    5. The same happened with Jezz Bezos‘ Venice wedding, but the protests of the people don’t really matter when the rich have the money.

This sub Reddit is really gone down the fucking pan. Actually the rich should just be able to buy and patrol public spaces as they wish: This is an issue that’s becoming increasing more common globally. Like what the fuck is wrong with you?

Honestly I would be pissed too if a couple of rich celebrities came to my city and closed of portions of it from the public.

Take your millions and shove them up your ass. I gotta get to work on time, bitches.

    8. We in Albania are protesting to our govnerment for trying to sell the land. So they should do the same, protest. Otherwise is not Dua’s fault or anybodys if they rent it in the first place

Can’t these people just have a quiet ceremony somewhere near where they grew up/live instead of inserting themselves into an entire community’s life.

They’re blowing this whole thing out of proportion. And it is time for the country to stop this crap from happening.

Destination marriages are fine but people should not be allowed to close off cities and whatnot for their private arrangements just because they’re rich.

    12. Why Siccily ?

Thy could have booked some resort place, no need to be in sicilly.

Maybe they needed a yacht port ???

    13. I am with the residents, but they should be protesting the city government why they gave permission to such a disruptive event.

Oh look, another moneybags pop star flaunting her wealth and power over the masses. Really someone we should look up to.

    15. Sorry but does it have to be in Sicily for publicity reasons? If she wanted to honour her heritage she’d get married in Albania (and she could support the protesters btw) or in Kosovo. (Or is she Arberesh?)
But I guess those places aren’t fancy enough…

      Btw the locals are right.

They seem like good people. I hope they have a wonderful day.

I also hope that nobody messes with the event. If people want to change the way bookings and future events are done that’s fine. The price does seem pretty low. That said, they seem to have followed the rules as they currently are.

I kind of wish that islands like Sicily and cities like Barcelona got their way and never got a tourist again. How long would it take for the money to dry up, and the people living there to realize 99% of the income was tourism? For 1-2-3 years it would be paradise. After 5-10 maybe they would miss some of them, no?

    18. frekinghell on

Last year Indian billionaire wedding they said the same thing. Are these people sleepwalking into renting out their cities?
Is someone coercing them? Or they have a fetish of taking money and complaining?

    19. Well, I’m sure they can take measures so it isn’t treated the same in the future
