    1. Finland and Iceland is not Scandinavia. It should be The Nordics with this definition.

    2. That’s not Scandinavia, those are the Nordics. Scandinavia refers to Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

    3. Wouldn’t want them guide me through Europe’s region classification or other things.

    4. portugal isn’t on the mediterranean at any point, so i feel it should just be yellow, surely?

    5. ok are those culturall or geographical because if cultural then montenegro should be togheder with serbia and kosovo with albania, if geographical then how is greece western? (culturally also doesn’t make sense cause greece was foundation for both eastern and western europe)

    6. Since there are no Nordics on the map and Finland is confirmed Scandinavian once and for all, can Baltics claim the title of Nordics? (Finland should be let into Nordics if they teach their Estonian brethren the joys of ice hockey.)

    7. France, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Western Germany and Italy were considered Western Europe for their level of economic development plus Nato and EU membership after WW2. Spain and Portugal should also be considered Western Europe but they were late members to both Nato and EU due to their autocratic regimes. So definition of Western Europe was as much economic and political as its geographic.

This is why people visit Portugal, expecting to float in the Med, and instead freeze their nuts off in the wild Atlantic.

It seems like lonely planet should align their maps with UN classification standards

    10. This just feels like bending over backwards to keep Cold War era terminology alive.

If you want to have successful friends in Estonia, dont call us East-European.

Why the need to bloody classify, especially giving such a contrived yet wrong result? Just put a map of Europe with country names and there you go. Twats.

There’s no reason to split the concept of Western Europe that way. They’re mixing geography with bits of political norms. We know where the Mediterranean is.

      Turkey is in Asia.

It’s pretty unanimous that the Bosphorus in Istanbul is the border.

Calling Scandinavia a single region while splitting Central Europe into two different categories is wild.

If Mediterranean Europe and Scandinavia are „regions“, then the Balkans should be another region as well. I’m surprised it’s not on this map…

Türkiye (Turkey) should be in the Middle East and not it’s own classification.

This sub is just getting dumber by the fucking minute…

      Finland in SCANDINAVIA?!

I could get the confusion with Iceland/Faroe having a language connected to the Scandinavians. Or well, they are Scandinavians genetically tbf. But ending up putting THREE extra countries in the subregion?

If this is the region they thought of, there’s already a cultural region called The Nordics with these exact six countries, lol. Just go with that, maybe.
