The ubiquity of ket amongst the younger generation now is so alarming. In my school in the mid 2000s, it was the reserve of the weirdos who thought sitting drooling watching a wall for several hours was a good night.

It’s not talked about enough. Throw a stone in the air and it will land on a bag of cocaine, but for the younger lot who can’t afford it, ketamin is readily available and your money will go a lot further, but the damage it does is much much more.
Hopefully it starts a national conversation.

Heart goes out to Izzy and her loved ones.
If drugs were decriminalised and rehab were easier to enter into, this never would’ve happened. There would have been no dealer, there would be suitable substitutions to wean her off and proper support when returning home. But instead we let the black market cater to addiction and help them spiral beyond the NHS’s ability to catch them. There was realistically nothing any urologist or eating disorder specialist could’ve done; addiction was the issue, not an eating disorder or bladder issue.

Was reading through and it seems a couple have my sentiments back iny school days (early to mid 90s) it was a dirty drug wouldn’t touch it we stuck to weed and speed but yeah it’s quiet scary how big it’s got and how much bigger it’s becoming.

I believe I’m a rarity these days where I think drugs are for idiots and losers. I’ve always refused to touch any of the harder stuff and even legal stuff like alcohol isn’t really my thing.
I’ve seen the devastation it does to addicts and the lives it ruins. I also see the damage the illegal trade does.
But it’s ok, „it’s only a bit of X Y Z“.

Don’t do drugs. It isn’t worth it! I’ve lost too many people in my own life from them. Such a waste of life.

So she OD’d on opiates and died? This is the most misleading horse shit article I’ve ever seen in the Metro.
“Body shut down”. What bollocks. Yeah overdosing on opiates slows down your respiratory rate, who knew?! Literally not even caused by the vitamin K addiction.

This article is ridiculous and with an incredibly misleading title, she did not die from ket but from opiates, did anyone actually read it?!

I never understood what people get out of ketamine. It’s a laugh but it’s not euphoric or anything, just spaces you out massively.

I have a friend whose son was into ket for 2 years from age 18-20. Absolutely destroyed the poor kid’s bladder. He has so many hospital appointments, and they’re trying to figure out if he can have any kind of surgery to help.
He has been clean for over a year and regularly shares his experience online to raise awareness.

I feel so terribly sorry for her mother, but I really don’t agree with her. She’s angry because the urologists wouldn’t help her. The urology problem is 100% caused by ketamine. Without coming off ketamine, there can be nothing but deterioration. So it *isn’t* an urology problem: it’s an addiction problem.
So the mother is furious with the dietary doctors. But her daughter’s awfully low weight wasn’t an eating disorder: it was the ketamine. So, again, it had to be dealt with by dealing with her addiction.
Yet her daughter, although the poor woman was desperate to live-she *wasn’t* ready to give up ketamine. Absolutely not. The mother wanted her sectioned. Basically locked up and forced off the drug. We don’t do that with addicts. Why not? Well, let’s just think about that one for a minute.
I’ve known a LOT of addicts. Some have got clean, some have died, and some are functioning with their addiction. What have they ALL got in common? Their actions are their own choice. You CAN’T force a cure on an addict. One day that person has to leave rehab and walk straight back into their life.
Addiction is such a cruel, cruel disease-and you have to accept that reality.

Urology trainee here; don’t do ketamine kids. The number of young patients presenting with intractable bladder pain despite taking every painkiller available is tragic. The worst part of it is that, even after abstinence, ketamine-induced cystitis is irreversible and oftentimes surgical removal of the bladder is the only solution.

This article is all over the place.
It says: „the 22-year-old died in agony after her body shut down from a five-year addiction to class B drug ketamine“.
Then it says: ‚She ended up in hospital on April 25 last year but discharged herself and ‘went home to die’…’She knew she was dying that last 48 hours. She died 36 hours after she got home‘.
And then after all that it finally says: ‚Izzy died after taking a toxic combination of morphine and gabapentin, causing her breathing to slow and stop‘.
…so, as sad as it still is, she had a catastrophic drug addiction, which was the cause of all of her medical issues, which couldnt really be resolved because her drug addiction was ongoing, and ultimately she died of an overdose. Everything else written is bollocks.

Crazy, I did a fair bit of K in my 20s and wouldn’t have put it as an addictive thing. I loved the K-hole though, perhaps that’s where the addiction comes in.

I have been partying since I was 16ish and am still partying at 26. Iv had a few friends who have gone down the kpath, including a semi girlfriend. Stick to normal party drugs like gear or mdma. So not worth permanently damaging ur bladder. Ket is fun on a night out but if ur blasting it like you are drinking it will ruik ur life. If you are reading this and thinking about doing it go for it and enjoy (but be careful especially if u are drinking) but don’t let it become ur main tipple. It will ruin ur life if you treat it like drinking

Weird that so many people use ket these days. When I was a teenager, I only ever heard of one guy that used it once and everyone talked badly about him behind his back from then on. Weed was less frowned upon but if you did it regularly then you were thought of as a bit of a scratter.

I bought quite a bit of ket a few months ago because I was curious. I didn’t try to ration. Felt pretty intense one time like I was sinking. Otherwise most times I felt woozy and floaty for 10 mins before I felt like I had to try again. Is that all it is? Finished my stash and have no desire to do it again. Was my dose too low? felt like I did a good amount each time and progressively increased to a point. I did it at home and music didn’t feel more enhanced. I got it in glass form and crushed it.
