16 Gripen C/D donated, expected early 2027. Ukraine will also buy 20 Gripen E with delivery starting 2030.
Sweden will provide maintenance and equipment.
I wonder what has been going on behind the scenes. Ukraine and Gripen have been a news story for years now.
This is great news! The Gripen can also operate the Meteor air-to-air missile, so let’s hope they will get a lot of those as well! They are significantly better than the AIM-120 AMRAAM they currently use. With the combination of Saab 340 AWACS and Gripens with Meteor missiles, Ukraine will significantly increase the „no-escape-zone“ and strip away even more of Russia’s long-range safe zone.
