As a swede i would call this a win win. Both the fact that Ukraine gets more jets, the Gripen can be tested in real time to make improvements and for newer airplanes later on, not only that but also the fact that every Russian drone, missile and plane being shot down by Ukraine is one that can’t threaten us and our allies

On the surface I applaud this.. but this will add more complexity to the Ukrainian AF. Now they will be flying 3 different Western fighters, made by 3 different countries. Thats in addition to the Soviet era Migs and SUs they have.
Sucks that the U.S. turned out to be a douche partner, would have been best for Ukraine to just standardize on the F-16. Yes, not as capable as a late model Gripen, but available in quantity and would streamline logistics and training.

This is fantastic news, depending on the numbers it could allow the Ukrainians local air superiority in some regions, forcing Russian CAS back. I wonder how many of the E models the Ukrainians will get in the future. The E might just be the best 4th generation model plane on the market, especially for the type of war Ukraine is fighting.

Well done Sweden.

Thank you, Sweden! I must visit y’all some time and thank you personally. Without being an ugly American.
>The countries last year (2025) signed a letter of intent that could see Sweden supply up to 150 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine.
>With the first deliveries estimated at three years away from any deal being finalised, the planes are seen as a priority for Ukraine’s post-war fighter fleet – but there have been questions about funding.
>“We have our plan how to finance it,“ Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said.
>…Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson told Reuters that part of the 80 billion Swedish crowns ($8.70 billion) that have been set aside in the government budget for aid to Ukraine this year and next could be used to help finance the deal.

This new development does come just a few weeks after the Swedish defence minister said his country and Ukraine were „[within months](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/talks-with-ukraine-gripen-fighter-jet-deal-are-going-well-swedish-defence-2026-05-07/)“ this year of signing a contract for the Gripen.

This latest news about a transfer would likely involve readily available, older Gripen C/D to help Ukraine start gaining experience with the aircraft.
Gripen + Awacs + Meteor == WIN.
Hire more people, build more, send more. Russian imperialism needs to die in Ukraine.
