During some of my work trips to Oslo, I have had a chance to stay at the hotel in Holmenkollen and of course to see the actual Holmenkollen skijump site. While we only passed by in taxi, the hill looked way more massive and steaper than in TV. It was almost hard to believe.

After seeing that, I have had even more respect to his career in skijumping. It takes a lot of balls and skills to come down that hill, on skis and in such high speed. And they jumped almost blimdfolded due to a thick fog. And Nykänen won his first ever gold medal in 1982 Holmenkollen World championships.

Later in life, he wasn’t always the best human being but he was such a charachter. Truly a ‚koko kansan Matti‘.
