Interesting. Continuing as an independent. A potential wildcard if not everyone shows up for big votes.

I’m going to be sad to see him go, we need voices like his around the table even more at a time when economic and popular forces are pushing against climate action

But from a realpolitik perspective, and this does not bring me joy to say, this probably helps the LPC electorally

Not really surprising. I’m no fan of Guilbeault but he definitely has a strong point of view on matters and Carney’s government is moving in the opposite direction of that.

I think Canadians by and large align much more with Carney’s worldview than Guilbeault’s, so I don’t expect much fallout from this even in Quebec, but he did seem increasingly left in the cold and the coalition got too large.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he eventually found his way to the NDP but may also just be a malcontent independent for the remainder of his term.

Will be glad to see the back of him.

Environmentally I am left of Carney, but I have never liked Guilbeault, And didn’t feel he was a voice that could make moderates take notice of the things that they could care about for a better climate plan.

Good for him. And fuck Smith for trying to hold Canada’s sovereignty hostage for her Oil & Gas puppet masters. And fuck all the oil patch sympathizers. It’s insane we have done fuck all to actually shift away from Oil & Gas reliance, and that we are hoping the rest of the world gives us solutions so we don’t need to do the work ourselves.

Good on Guilbeault for sticking to his morals. And shame on everyone involved with appeasing Alberta’s power fantasy. We are an energy superpower, but we don’t have to become an Oiligarchy to do it.

This isn’t surprising. Truthfully, I thought he was going to resign a while ago and run for QLP leadership.

I don’t feel that this changes much in Ottawa right now, though. Votes that he’d vote against would likely be the opposite of what the Tories would. The NDP doesn’t accept floor crossers and the Greens are in a state of perpetual chaos so no clue what he does.
