ps: it is 48.8 degrees from the equator, and 5000km corresponds to ~45 degrees almost exactly, so at the very least it should cover the top of the map

This is why when you see posts online saying „ballistic missile range“ for Iran, North Korea etc you have to check that it wasn’t made by a journalist who slapped a circle on Mercator. Even the Economist made this mistake in the past
Orthographic or azimuthal is much better suited for this particular use case

Hmm… If interested visit http://www.ogdp.in in your computer and click analysis button on any epicenter. Then you will land on result page. Click 2D map where this feature is available.
