In a post on his social media platform on Thursday evening, Trump said the decision to send troops was, in part, because of the 2025 election of Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki.
„Based on the successful Election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to Endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland,“ Trump said in the post.
Last week, the Pentagon announced that a 4,200-man Army brigade headed to Poland would not be deploying after all, even though the unit’s equipment had already arrived and the unit underwent months of training for such a mission.
The move would effectively cut American combat power in Poland by nearly half.

This an amazing success of Polish foreign policy and should be viewed as such.
The Polish (and eastern European nations as a whole) don’t care much who’s in the white house, they just want the Americans to be as involved as possible, as a deterrent to Russian imperialism. Having a stronger US presence has been an unchanging foreign policy objective for about 30 years now and every move in this direction is seen as a major success.
Edit: of course, the US is getting a lot of perks from staying in Eastern Europe but the enthusiasm of Eastern European nations for this cannot be understated.

The question is what has been offered in exchange. I have zero doubts that Trump didn’t do this out of his love for Poland.

At this point, with Poland and EU military build up, deterrence against Russia is less important than the prevention of US foreign influence using Poland to break up EU IMO. Send em back. What am I missing?

Saw someone say the 5,000 troops were going to probably head to like Lithuania or Estonia, which would piss Putin off. So Trump moved them back. I’m sure this isn’t true, it’s probably just the Polish president convincing Trump to switch course
