Bruce Dern sagt, Quentin Tarantino habe Brad Pitt am Set von „Once Upon a Time“ ausgeschimpft, als Pitt während Derns Improvisation Cut rief: „Er sagte: ‚Brad, was hast du gerade gemacht?‘ Brad sagte: „Nun, das stand nicht im Drehbuch, was er gesagt hat.“ Quentin sagte: „Nie wieder wirst du jemals eine Kamera zerschneiden.“ Das ist meine Domäne“

I mean. That seems like a reasonable thing for a director to be upset about, no?

ETA: I truly cannot believe the number of people commenting anything other than “actors don’t call cut.” If you’re uncomfortable as the actor and feel unsafe, sure. Anything else? What?

    2. That’s totally reasonable of Tarantino to say. Not only is he the director, he wrote the damn thing, I don’t care if you’re Brad Pitt, it’s entirely Quentin’s call if improvisation is allowed and that is a gross overstep.

That don’t impress-a me much, Brad.

I work in entertainment as an editor & I agree. Decide that in advance with the director if you’re going to, it’s not every director’s preference. I once saw an interview where this actor was saying he doesn’t bother with learning his lines that was a fairly well known actor. To me this is the height of lazy unprofessionalism.

It’s not unheard of for an actor to say „cut,“ but I’ve never heard of an actor cutting because another one improvised a line.

The Director calls cut unless there is a safety issue. No exceptions.

Tarantino has been getting a lot of flak recently (rightfully so), but this is one where he’s not wrong. An actor doesn’t call cut.

Wow, the ego on Pitt at the time. I mean idk what I’m talking about, but it seems like a major overreach.

What’s the issue? It is Tarantino’s set. Actually it shows he has respect in the business and has command over his set – not even someone like Brad Pitt, an A lister top of the line veteran, can throw his weight around on his set.

    9. I just direct indie stuff, music videos and corporate videos, so nowhere near the top of Hollywood, and nobody cuts but me.

I mean if Brad Pitt were to do it I’d let it slide, which is probably what big stars are used to, but if I had Tarantino’s juice there’s no way I’d allow it

This all feels very made up (on Bruce dern’s part), especially when you hear the full quote he attributes to Tarantino: “never again in your life will you ever cut a camera or you’ll be dead in this business.” That is just so not how Tarantino talks. And obviously Brad Pitt would know not to do this

    11. A common theme I hear about Pitt a lot, is that he’s kinda…..dumb. Like he’s a decent actor in certain roles but only if you tell him exactly what to do. What to say, where to stand, what to do with his hands, how to walk. It sounds like he has absolutely zero ability to think on his own so when a person goes off script, his brain doesn’t know what to do.

Spielberg allegedly reacted similarly (though with more heat) when Ben Stiller tried to cut in Empire of the Sun, and the scene in Tropic Thunder when Stiller’s character says “can we cut?” is a reference to that.

Tarantino LOVES old westerns and almost certainly holds Bruce Dern in very high regard. Wouldn’t be surprised if Tarantino, who famously makes actors stay on script, carved out an exception for someone like Bruce.

Just because Quentin is a dick a lot of the time doesn’t mean he was wrong in this case.

Whatever you think aboutTarantino, he was totally in the right. Pitt should have known better than to step on the director’s toes.

This is gonna doom pitt’s career. The wife and child beating is one thing, but this is a massive overstep by him

    17. Seems like a reasonable thing for a director to scold an actor over. Brad overstepped his authority on the set, and undermined Quentin’s authority at the same time. Most people will get upset at that sort of thing at their job. The same would happen to almost anyone if they did something similar to their boss.

Wasn’t there a video out a while back of Quentin stating his doesn’t like when actors Improvise over his dialogue? I know it’s Bruce Dern but his reaction seemed like a little unwarranted. I also don’t think Brad should’ve interrupted but Quentin thinks he’s a literal God. Make 29 films you bastard!

    19. Brad Pitt is lucky he’s famous too. Try that as a day player and you may get kicked off set. You stay in character and in the moment until the director says cut.

    20. Get_Out_lmao on

Why did he think it was his place to yell cut?

      What an arrogant little asshole.

    21. Sounds fake.

For the simple reason that they worked together in Inglourious Basterds, and this sounds like something that, had it had happened, it would’ve been earlier in their joint collaborations.

    22. SpaceMyopia on

Fuck Tarantino in general, but he was 100 percent in the right to shut Pitt down in this instance.

Tarantino’s the director. That’s just the way it is.

    23. Even_Objective2124 on

tarantino’s a douche bag but he’s completely reasonable in this context. brad pitt, on the other hand, is an egotistical ahole. what kind of unprofessionalism is this? isnt he a a producer?? isnt he a veteran actor who should know this by now?? or is he just an experienced spoiled brat
