Depleted uranium is toxic to the environment and small debris can be ingested and cause organ damage.
NATO should consider this a red line if a missile debris reaches NATO groundwater

Although the article doesn’t state it outright, I assume an R-60 air-to-air missile normally has a DU warhead. This isn’t some new Russian terror tactic so much as they put an AA missile on a Geran-2 for some reason.

It is basically „If I can’t take the land then I will ruin it“. There needs to be special meeting in the United Nations about this.

They are using their old R-60 stocks. Those missiles come stock with an continuous rod DU warhead. No defence of Russia here, but this isn’t some shocking news. Russia already uses depleted uranium in it’s tank shells. Not sure if Ukraine uses it but it’s not unheard of (NATO tanks use DU, and Ukraine also uses the R-60 missiles).

I think it’s a bit rich for ukraine to complain now that Russia is starting to use depleted uranium in missiles when they were supplied a one hundred thousand depleted uranium APDS rounds for the Abrams tanks they mooched out of the United States and used them all two years ago.
We probably don’t want to talk about the munitions we build on tribal land. Choctaw defense would never./s Good thing we have sovereignty none of those pesky treaties getting in the way. Oklahoma is basically a super fund site with gas stations and plutonium.

Didn’t US do this with tank rounds in desert storm?

Ukraine did that to with tanks.

Who remembers kacaps crying over „nuclear munitions“ when tanks were sent to Ukraine?

That’s only for armor piercing.
It’s dumb to use it in any other projectile.

The fact that people are tut tutting over this shows how much reactions are simply about whose team you’re on, rather than any real analysis of the issue. DU is a normal part of modern weaponry. The US uses it. Ukraine uses it.
Complain about them firing it at civilian targets, not that their weapons are made out of weapon.

Fuck Russia, but pretty sure Ukraine is using depleted uranium ammunition already for quite a few years now, in particular for tank munitions, but I imagine other stuff too

us has been using depleted uranium in tank armor, tank shells, autocannon shells, and probably a ton more classified uses and exporting these weapons. this has been normal for decades.

This is not new or shocking. It’s just Russia finally catching up to 25+ year technology
