> According to THE Biz, the K-pop group Zerobaseone became embroiled in a damages lawsuit totaling approximately 12.4 billion won after failing to fully appear at a concert in Taiwan. Members Zhang Hao and Ricky, whose absence triggered the dispute, left the group when their contracts expired in March.
> On May 6 (local time), the Taipei District Court issued a civil ruling in a case filed by Taiwanese concert promoter Tianfang Culture Co., Ltd. against Loud Corporation and YH Entertainment Korea (formerly Yuehua Entertainment Korea), among others. The court dismissed part of the lawsuit and transferred part to the court with proper jurisdiction. The ruling did not address liability or damages; it dealt solely with which court has authority to hear the case.
> The plaintiff, Tianfang Culture, claims it was the organizer of the event. A Hong Kong-registered company, Yuchiwu Digital Technology Center Ltd., allegedly acted as intermediary and arranged for all nine members of Zerobaseone to perform.
> The issue arose on May 30, 2025, one day before the concert.
> The plaintiff alleges that Yuehua Entertainment unilaterally decided that Zhang Hao and Ricky would not appear after their families reportedly received phone calls from someone claiming to be affiliated with the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Chinese State Council, warning that they should not perform in Taiwan.
> The plaintiff further claims that Yuehua publicly stated the two members were absent due to health reasons, even though the real cause was political or external pressure.

So idols preferring their security resulted them in getting sued for billions. Taiwan already doesnt get much concerts and this might lower the chances even further. Zhang hao and ricky are chinese so the concern is pretty legit if we consider the bad blood between two countries.

Am I crazy but isn’t this a better excuse to tell fans than to tell fans that their own government warned two idols to not perform?

This situation is crazy. I do think Yuehua should pay some money back to the company but that is a huge amount. In the article it states that Yuehua pulled the members without talking to the organizing company or Wakeone about the decision. It’s understandable to pull them if it’s due to politics but since a contract was signed they should’ve informed the other parties involved.
Most likely Wakeone was the most affected from this situation seeing as they received the backlash from the fans due to this situation. I wonder if they had to pay back any money to the organizer also

So, if i am understanding this right:
The plaintiff and concert organizer, Tianfang Culture, which is based in Taiwan, hired a Hong Kong-based company, Yuchiwu Digital, as an intermediary. Yuchiwu Digital then hired a third company, Loud Corporation, to secure the group’s participation. While Zerobaseone was still operating under WakeOne as a 9 member group, Loud Corporation had to sign a direct agreement with Yuehua Entertainment in order to guarantee the participation of the members signed under that company (Zhang Hao, Ricky, Yujin, and Gyuvin), which they did. One day before the event, the families of Zhang Hao and Ricky allegedly received calls from Chinese government officials warning them not to attend the performance in Taiwan. Instead of disclosing that reason, Yuehua Entertainment falsely claimed that the two members would be absent due to health issues. Tianfang Culture is now arguing that the contract was breached.
So, Tianfang Culture and Yuehua Entertainment do not appear to have had a direct contract, right? Yuehua had a direct contract with Loud Corporation, and that contract with Loud Corporation does seem to have been partially breached, since stipulated obligations only fulfilled by specific person in a specific date (in the case, ZH and Rick participation in 114 ALL LOUD KT POP Concert in Taiwan may 31 of 2025) whatever reason for not attending, would guarantee at least refunding the other party for not fulfilling it. But for this, the alleged breach would have been between Yuehua and Loud Corporation rather than directly between Yuehua and Tianfang Culture. Loud should be the one suing YH and not Tianfang.
What surprises me is that I originally thought a contract for a Zerobaseone performance would be signed with WakeOne, which would allow lineup changes for justified reasons without necessarily constituting a breach, since the contractual obligation would simply be the group’s performance itself. However, it seems that, in order to secure a ZB1 performance, Loud Corporation had to sign separate contracts with the members’ original agencies and these are personally named contracts.

Every part of this is kinda unfair to everyone. What was Yuehua supposed to do in this situation? Let the boys go and submit to whatever legal penalties the Chinese government decides for them? Tell the public “tensions are too high” and deal with whatever backlash the Chinese government makes them deal with? Wakeone wouldn’t have cared, they would have said to send them, under the terms of the contract.
This is Taiwanese courts using 2 20-something boys and a Chinese entertainment country as a proxy for the Chinese government and that’s ridiculous.
