Late-night host Jon Stewart has delivered a statesmanlike speech on how he believes voters will feel when they finally “repudiate” the stranger-than-reality TV show that is the second Donald Trump administration.

“I mean this from the bottom of my heart—not just for this show, but for the country,” Stewart told fellow host Stephen Colbert in a guest appearance before Colbert’s Late Show franchise is retired by CBS.

“The day, the day—oh people, close your eyes and dream—the day that the electorate in this great nation we call home repudiates this putrid administration, the day that happens, my brother!” Stewart said, to rousing cheers from Colbert’s studio audience.

I was walking on homemade stilts the moment I was told Elvis died. I was watching SNL when I found out Princess Diana died in a car crash. I was watching the news getting my daughter ready for her first day of kindergarten when the first plane hit the WTC on Sept 11th. I don’t know where I’ll be when I hear the glorious news, but I know I’ll remember it for the rest of my days. I don’t drink, but I have an expensive bottle of champagne that was gifted to me, at the ready.

    3. I have realised there is a brand of American who desperately wants to pretend this is a temporary confusion from voters.

They truly think it’s a blip and one day it will simply go back to normal. Despite all evidence showing a permanent abandonment of democracy by republicans in southern states.

They are not coming back – in fact its clear they never really believed in America anyway.

It’s so exhausting that people still think Trump supporters can be saved, and they don’t realise it’s a war.

    4. That scene in wicked where everyone rushes out of their homes singing “she’s dead” …just saying I’m going to recreate that

It’ll be a bigger celebration than the 250 year anniversary of this shithole.

    6. They’re gonna have to hide his grave like Genghis Khan to prevent it from being covered in piss and shit 24/7

I’m openly celebrating that day. I’m going to party like I haven’t in a long time.

I’m going to haul my couch into the street and set it on fire, and we’ll have a party that literally blows the motherfucking roof off my house.

    13. I’ll be taking the day off work, drinking in a kids pool with cigars and sparklers. Maybe two days off.

This reminds me I need to get some fireworks this year to set aside for when it happens.
The world is going to party like it’s 1999.

    15. Im gonna party so hard and instantly know who was a cretin by them NOT celebrating. It’s gonna be fantastic.

A few ideas for when it happens:

Take a selfie, or ask someone who feels the same way you do to take a photo or video while your reaction is still fresh. It could make for an amazing video compilation later, or simply be something meaningful to look back on.

If you see the news first through a notification, take a screenshot. If you find it on Reddit, another app, or a webpage, save the link and screenshot it. If someone tells you over text, save that too. If you see it on TV, take a photo of the screen, or jot down where you were, what you were doing, and what time you found out.

Record a quick voice memo with your initial reaction and thoughts.

Call your friends, yes, actually call them, if it is a good time.

If you choose to drink or celebrate in other ways, please do it responsibly. Plenty of others will be doing the same, and we do not need anyone getting hurt, dying, or getting a DUI.

      Dance! 💃

Literally going to walk out of my job, buy champagne, and get absolutely slammered

    18. When bush jr was in power i thought we couldn’t possibly elect someone worse. Be EXTREMELY wary of who the people in control of the Republican Party will pick next. It can certainly be worse. And it most likely will be.
