Wussten Sie?

Hey, that’s a proper out of the box thinking there.
How long did they predicted that would take? 30 years?
If it worked you would be calling them geniuses
A bit like planning to beat Stephen Hawking in a boxing match by first challenging Mike Tyson
If this plan were implemented today, it would be equivalent to eliminating Russia and then landing in Alaska to invade the United States.
Why not just attack Safavid Iran, which would have been pretty unstable in 1588? While it was taken over by Abbas the Great, a coup had just taken place and some factions could’ve assisted the Spanish Empire?
China was flourishing under the Ming Dynasty at this period so it’s the worst idea they could’ve have come up with.
To be fair, it’s not like they would’ve seen it coming…
Same repost every week.
This wasn’t a plan seriously considered by any king or high authority at that time. And every time it’s reposted, redditors keep adding more and more made up details details.
Next time we have it here, we will learn about how they planned to use China’s wealth and resources to launch a satellite to orbit equiped with a laser able to destroy the Ottoman Empire.
Why do all of this when they could have sick dday type of invasion from the Mediterranean
I feel like the whole point of this post was just to flex this:
>The Spanish were completely fed up with the Ottomans constantly defeating them,
Even though that was not even true.
While devastating and cruel, when you look at what they achieved in America this may not have seemed so farfetched to the Spanish – perhaps they misconstrued the distances, but still. When you look at Pizarro and the conquest of the Incas and the distances they travelled with ridiculously small number of troops and the battlefield victories against overwhelming numerical disadvantage I could see why they’d think anything is possible, especially as they did all this after traveling across the Atlantic, through Panama and into the pacific down the pacific coast of South America.
If I was a Spaniard at that time, I’d think anything is possible. Perhaps underestimating the resistance in China…
Side note: the Cambodian-Spanish War is so fascinating. Not only was it a European country fighting in Southeast Asia, but some of the recruits were from the Philippines, Japan, and Mexico. So many people from cultures from around the world were involved in this lesser known conflict.
Ahh again?
It’s not really a spanish plan as in the government, it’s just an idiot in spain who had a lot of imagination.
Daily dose of westerners not having a clue about Asia.
Napoléon and tsar Alexander had a similar plan to invade British India from Russia.
It was before Russia became an enemy of France.
Why didn’t they just dig a deep hole to reach China. Were they stupid?

Fun fact, they really believed they arrived to India, thats why they called native americans Indians 😅
hearts of iron 4 ass plan
That second paragraph is hilariously fanboying over the Ottomans.
Getting some weird axe-grinding Turkish or Chinese nationalist vibes from all the commentary OP is providing here. You’d swear Philip II personally insulted them and their family or something.
This could never succeed
I dreamt once that I had outposts in Andromeda that I used to fight a war in the Triangulum galaxy, so the Spanish are fine, their thing is just 2nd craziest.
Probably played too much Stellaris.
Any source(s) for this at all?
Why do they keep bringing this up? There wasn’t any plan to invade China, some guy sent a letter to the king asking him to invade China, the king answered „nope, that’s crazy“, and that was all…
Like, William H. Seward wanted US to declare war to UK, France and Spain as a distraction in order to avoid a Civil War… that doesn’t mean Abraham Lincoln had a plan to declare war to all of Europe.
„It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it plays out for ‚em.“
Literally the only ones who supported this plan were some Jesuit missionaries who wanted to achieve the Christianization of Asia. There was never a moment when this was seriously planned. Even at the time it was considered madness, and in the Spanish authors one can see great respect for China, considering it an unattainable power and an essential trading partner.
Spain’s interest in China was based on trade and attempts to evangelize it, for which the Bible was translated into Chinese. But conquering it was never seriously considered. Many people say yes just to get more attention.
Incidentally, the claim that the Ottomans kept defeating the Spanish is false. The Spanish defeated the Ottomans at Lepanto and John of Austria, the bastard half-brother of Philip II, came to occupy all of present-day Tunisia and was almost proclaimed King of Tunisia. However, Philip II’s distrust of his half-brother prevented him from obtaining the title of king.
Spain halted the expansion of the Ottomans in the Western Mediterranean.
„No body expects the Spanish to attack from the Caspian sea!“
Spanish china.. that would me weird
