According to the article the WHO actually declared it a:

      > public health emergency of international concern

Bad news but clearly not equivalent to a global health emergency. Editorialized for sensationalism.

    2. Doubt it’s gonna be anything serious. Ebola is only transmissible through bodily fluids as far as I know, plus it’s way too fatal to reach pandemic level.

Still good to be cautious I suppose, but this just feels like fear mongering at this point.

    3. If we’ve learned anything from the practice round, we’re fucked because people don’t care.

It feels like a never-ending cycle. Just when we finally get through one crisis and catch our breath, a new disease pops up or an old one changes. I’m only 29, but at this stage of my life, I genuinely feel afraid of how these threats keep coming up and evolving. All I really want is for my family to stay safe, but it feels like the global situation is just getting worse.

I saw how some people only care about themselves and their work, but it’s not that easy for everyone. I need to know from someone who has seen the world more than me, who has dealt with situations like these more than me. The only reason I shared this news was to get opinions from elders who have seen such things, and to learn how they dealt with it.

I’m sorry if it’s too much to ask, I overthink things a lot. Having some elder’s insights can really help me feel stable and not freak out while reading such news.

Is this going to be like the world Ebola outbreak from 2014 that never happened?

Imagine the no vaccine, no mask, no social distancing I’m not washing my hands maga nut balls being decimated by Ebola. Political, and societally speaking, culling that population could do wonders for all of mankind.

Sadly, that’s not really how this works.

It’s funny how easily you can tell who read the article and who’s didn’t based on some of the ignorant comments

It’s more of a *regional* emergency but that wouldn’t get anyone’s attention unfortunately

    9. Flashback to 2014 when I learned that Ebola had been around in the batman comics since the 90s… God knows how long irl

Everytime I see who declare something I think of Michael declaring bankruptcy

    12. FWIW all the public health experts on Bluesky were completely unbothered by the Hantavirus outbreak and seem way more concerned about this.

Ebola doesn’t spread if you don’t come into contact directly with infected fluids. It’s really not hard to manage unless you take absolutely no precautions.

I mean, its Ebola. Ofc its a problem, but its a localized problem. It burns out much too fast to really get anywhere.

They desperately want to control is by any means necessary should be the headline.
