Unfortunately, when services like this are in even more demand, the reality is the cost of living crisis is affecting important charities.

With the major boost they get from the walks, there are questions to be asked about their governance and budgetary choices

Too many local charities doing their own versions of Darkness into Light, in fairness after a raft of suicides locally l, massive fund-raising for Pieta, which led to absolutely no help from Pieta, our local community does one, brings in enough to keep a room going where anyone struggling can call a number and have professional help there within the hour. While Pieta just took 40k raised on Facebook, blocked the organisers and have never been heard from since, well apart from legal letters ….

Did the CEO take a pay cut? No word of that. I texted the helpline a few weeks ago. Still waiting on a reply. Absolute useless fecks.

Remember the HSE audited them a few years ago and found them dodgy as hell. About 20 different bank accounts and no records.
> In recent years, the HSE has doubled its funding of Pieta House from €2 million to €4 million.
Hope they’ve checked

Well well well. I wonder if they pocketed the Darkness into Clicks money before announcing this. Grifters.

Coincidental how she came to Pieta to take over running the show after a financial scandal having come from CRC after a similar financial scandal. And Pieta only exists because of the Console scandal. The HSE will pay her wages up 1st before bailing Pieta out, as she worked for the HSE too.
The CEOs keep their jobs and massive wages, all the frontline staff got fired.

Tried to use them a few years ago, like others I never got a call back, that’s after actually being in a position to donate and do the darkness to light thing a few times.
I stopped supporting completely when I found out how much the CEO take home pay was and how poor their services have become.

When I went to them. I was told I would need to wait at least 8 weeks before they would have someone available to talk to us. . We had done the walk on a previous number of years and tried to help our when we could with it. They will never get a cent of my family again.

From my own personal experience I hope it closes down. It’s a money racket that pulls on the heart strings of good people who donate thinking the money is well spent. It’s not. The top dogs are well paid and wouldn’t be out of place in an episode of sopranos

I plan a DIL event on behalf of pieta. Every single event is run entirely by volunteers and over the years we receive little support from Pieta. However, those supports have been dwindling over the years and this year we got literally nothing from them. It was beyond disorganised and unprofessional on their behalf.
We still did really well with 3000 people which was fantastic for a small town. It was our highest attendance yet we’re down 5k in donations. Look, the awareness surrounding the event means more to me than the funds raised at this point. The town has been hit with a huge rake of suicides, people need to know they’re not alone whether they’re in a bad place or have lost someone.
I went over to a woman walking by herself this year, she’s a single mother from somewhere in Europe and her daughter died by suicide. She was felt alone with her grief but said DIL meant the world to her as she felt like she was surrounded by people who understood. I spoke with a Garda who said they’re the hardest call outs and we both ended up crying together somehow. Two women who’ve never met before chatted over a cup of coffee afterwards and exchanged numbers. That’s what it’s about for me, a sense of community and belonging when you’re part of a club nobody ever wants to be apart of.

My 15yo kid has credible suicidal thoughts and is seeing a pieta house councillor at present. I thought all the bad things about the CEO, the misuse of money, lack of resources etc but right now, this very second, pieta house is keeping my baby alive and for that they have my lifelong gratitude.

My partner is struggling to get a diagnosis and get on proper meds. He just keeps getting tossed benzo after benzo to keep him numb (and alive). I just want my friend back.

Mental health in this country does not exist unless you have good health insurance and can go somewhere for treatment. If they have space.
We are an extremely wealthy country yet there are no genuine services to help people in mental distress. I fucking hate these „ah sure let’s just talk about it, it’s not a stigma anymore“ and campaigns that have absolutely nothing behind them and at best just lead you to some online automated ‚course‘ where you click on a slideshow about slow- breathing and ‚hey, it’s okay to take a minute to yourself ‚ surface level bullshit.
There’s no actual services available. Especially if you have an addiction problem in relation to the mental issues.
It’s unacceptable and horrible but there’s absolutely no sign of anything changing. Just more empty bullshit ‚awareness‘ campaigning

How it isn’t the law world wide that 51% of any registered charities expenses have to go directly to helping people or research is fucking beyond me. Practically every charity that isn’t local to a town is just a scam.

Let 30 staff go. How many of those staff are qualified therapists who take years and years to qualify and work for a fraction of what it costs to get accredited. Most therapists see around a €50k or so income if they’re lucky to have a salary. Then there’s a cry about mental health crises and the state wonders why.

As someone that worked in charity.. I would never give money to charity.
I wanna name names but I could get banned. But as a whole, those animal shelter charities (I worked in a major Dog shelter charity) are a fucking SCAM.
I cant speak for how every charity works, but at least for the one I worked at, it was a sales job and most of the money went to admin.
