All across Europe. I find it interesting that this article is from an uk media, while Tommy Robinson gathers around 100k people in UK for his „Unite UK“ agenda.
People all over Europe have enough from centuries of immigration oriented politics.
I live in the state that might get a far right state government in fall. You can tell how aggressive the people here have become. They no longer care for facts or logic, they just want to be against something and hate.
“Part of the reason for the AfD’s success is the failed response of mainstream parties. Since the retirement of Angela Merkel, who famously welcomed an influx of Syrian refugees in 2015 with the words ‘wir schaffen das’ (‘we can manage this’), both the rightwing CDU and centre-left social democrats SPD have been unwilling to challenge the AfD’s narrative that German identity and culture has been diminished.”
I don’t think that’s true, they definitely tried. Unsuccessfully and unconvincingly maybe…
First thing they’ll do when they become the government is to implement what has been happening in the US during the last year and half, so better deal with them before it’s too late. It was already too late 6 months ago IMO, but trying anyway doesn’t hurt.
Well unless somebody will be able to point a finger at the issues germans are facing or they believe they are facing, what else can you expect than rise of the only power giving the damn about it.
One side calling the other racists because they care about their country and would like to preserve it and the other is called whatever woke because they express signs of empathy.
Let’s not pretend germans go with far right out of the blue and if we condamn them without trying to understand what is the true reason, it can only end with violence.
“For Kamau there is at least the option of leaving. “I am an African, I have my sense of belonging. But for an Afro-German who was born here and has no connection to the country people are saying they should go back to… that hits differently.”
A little odd considering she’s a refugee in Germany. Would’ve assumed that wasn’t an option… maybe refugee status should be temporary.
How difficult is it for some to understand that there are millions of ways to defend and promote your ideals without becoming puppets of Russia, China, the US or far-right billionaires, and trying to destroy democracy? Why is that so hard?
There one thing to do to stop the far right becoming stronger and stronger. Massive déportations. But no let’s pander to the left instead.
Can I get less foreshadowing today.
The rise of far-right, and, at the same time, Germany claiming they will have the biggest European military by 2039 is something… well… not pleasant to say the least.
If you Germans could abandon one of them (or even both), that’d be great. Thanks in advance!
Russia pays good money for this.
Their hybrid war has been the most effective military campaign in human history. The refugee crisis, Brexit, Orban, Trump… absolutely amazing wins for Putin… they would be insane to stop.
The only question is: will Russia fall apart before they can destroy Europe too…?
Fundamentally, Angela Merkel screwed Germany and deprived the German people of the option of taking the *reasonable* option.
She represented the right-of-centre party. It was **her job** as its leader to oppose this flood of third-world migrants into Germany and Europe *for her constituents and voters.* And she did the exact opposite.
She not only welcomed in but thereby encouraged ever vaster numbers *not* from Syria but from all around North Africa, Subsaharan Africa, the Middle East and even South Asia to make perilous journeys to Europe.
Which has left ordinary, moderate German voters in a position where they can either vote centre-right for more Syrians and Afghans, or centre-left for *even more* Syrians and Afghans, because they don’t think Germany or Europe has taken enough in!
Or… they can vote for the AfD, which are the only party (other than the former Sahra Wagenknecht party) saying „we’ll stop this happening.“ Not just the migration but the endless terror attacks, stabbings, rapes, suicide bombs, cars ploughing through pedestarians, the rapid and profound demographic change and what that’s leading to in German culture, cities, neighbourhoods, patterns of life, traditions, etc.
I have many concerns about the AfD. They seem to me, from my research and reading, to be qualitatively different from, for example, Giorgia Meloni in Italy, Nigel Farage in Britain, or Marine le Pen in France. Particularly at the local level in East Germany and among their Eastern youth wings, there is genuine far-right extremism there.
But if you don’t give people a *reasonable* option that will *credibly* (and that word is *crucial*) promise to crack down on this, they will start voting for any other party on the ballot. And the only one doing that right now is the AfD.
And you calling them racist, far-right, Nazi or whatever won’t change their minds.
Maybe they’ll just stay quiet. You’ll rant passionately about „Nazis“ and „White Supremacists“ over dinner with your relatives and some of your relatives will just eat their dinner and move the conversation on. Some will laugh, perhaps a little awkwardly, and eat their sauerkraut or potato salad.
But their vote when they enter the privacy of the ballot box won’t change.
Because you’ve done nothing to persuade them that the changes Germany has undergone over the past 10-15 years have been positive for the *German* people.
History repeating in circles. 2008 Collapse, the economy is still doing bad and the working class is suffering. Fascists find a scapegoat and a narrative that is easy to hate on, fascism is back.
Is the newest propaganda wave already starting because the old failure parties are going to lose in Sachsen-Anhalt in September? xD
In fact, as I understand it, the author of the article didn’t need to study anything in Germany.
He could have just stepped out of his house in London the day before yesterday and found himself at a multi‑thousand protest against immigrants- and indirectly against Muslims.
And just a week and a half earlier, he could have read on the BBC that Farage’s Reform Party (an even worse version of Germany’s AfD) had practically crushed its rivals in local elections and secured nearly half of the available parliamentary seats. So Germany is just a milder version of what is currently happening in Great Britain
History doesn’t look kindly on van Papen, and won’t look kindly on Merz
So what is the solution? My would be georgism but idk
Bannon hard at work.
Well since the left wing establishment absolutely refuses to deal with the migration issue, this is what you get.
Is anyone actually suprized at this? I’m not lol.
Scholz was horrible, now that Merz was elected I had hope that they picked a better leader… but he is proving to me that he is even FAR WORSE then Scholz was lol.
I can’t actually understand how a country like Germany doesn’t have 1 semi-capable person leading it, its insane to me.
Yeah the AfD follows the same system as Trump did in the election. Yell louder than your opponent, just say the obvious by stating out what the actual gouvernment did wrong, catching voters by telling they will do the opposite and playing the victim role when someone is against them.
Migration? -> We don’t need migration
Bulding climate neutral energy goes too slow -> we don’t need it
Help to Ukraine? -> oh look they waste our money for nothing
Russia turns down gas supply – > we need gas, government failed because its not more expensive
Someone calls us far right? -> freedom of speech ist lost in Germany
It’s insane that about a quarter of people here fall for that bullshit. They can litteraly see in the US what will happen and they jump into that chainsaw laghingly.
Dangerous is the current political consensus that have left Germany broke and victim of mass immigration
The reality is that you can and you should critisize unchecked immigration in EU without being attacked all the time as a racist. I come from a country with numerous immigrants (Romania) so don’t give me the “you don’t understand”. I was an immigrant myself many years and I understand better than you think.
This makes people angry and being called something that they are not makes them eventually become that.
If Germany did not welcome millions of immigrants from middle-east, it’s people would not vote as much for the far right. The solution is easy enough : stop immigration.
This is what complacency gets you
Whatever it takes to do away wirh the US‘ continued occupation of German, it’s worth it.
It’s been nearly 100 years since WWII.
I wonder why
Wow, I just wonder what we couldn’t do to avoid this.
… Can’t think of anything… Right now.. wondering….
Nazis will get in power and this sub will still blame the left
