This is a puff piece based off of puff policy. We really … really need to get our house in order when it comes to the arctic if we want to have any say on anything related to it. I remember seeing proposals for Domestic Arctic Mobility 10 years ago and there is still no movement on it even though the proposals were/are modest. These ‚agreements‘ are optics and not incredibly meaningful … you could argue they already exist as a default status quo (of course we are working with European/NATO countries). In no particular order we need to increase footprint (bases and hubs) with a RegF full time presence, with patrols on air, land and sea. Ideally a joint base is established with all arms operating in unison and multiple hubs get supported thru it. Our Rangers are a great tool for limited patrol and sensor/observation function, but they cant do everything. If we really want to get serious then establishing a larger arctic school within that joint base then allows us to expand our knowledge while offering expertise to partners.
