Interesting. I suppose the old capital area is crowded and congested.

I would not call it the „middle of the dessert“ though, as it is only 20 or 30 miles from the old city, and Egypt is about 500 miles wide.

Egypt does have a lot of desert… they probably wouldn’t wanna demolish farmland to build a new city.

Might as well put the capital next to the suez

Supposedly to be somewhat out of reach from the masses of Cairo, but at this point, would it be more strategic and also economically sensible to place it in Upper Egypt, say, near Qina?

    6. LoL it’s funny you said it is building cause, they already did built it.

What they’re doing now is the public acces to it, besides the roads of course.

This is just a fortress for the government like nyapyidaw. Yangon (rangoon) and cairo are natural capitals

It would have been funny if they put it genuinely in the middle of nowhere. Like near the Siwa Oasis or something.

good point, it’s like calling a state sovereign when it’s still under heavy external influence

new capital is a fortress far enough away from the population that they cant coup, they learned their lesson from the past.

    12. But why tho? What reason is there to build a new capital in the middle of the desert? What’s wrong with the old capital?

Every few thousand years they like to change the state religion and build a new capital out in the desert. If you ask me it won’t long outlast the current pharaoh. The next guy’ll just change it back.

Well, looks like it’ll last a few years before Cairo grows and surrounds it like the last couple of ‘new capitals’ Egypt tried…

Honestly if its planned well, which knowing Egypt isn’t the most likley, its kind of good to build cities like this, it gives you room to plan before urban sprawl catches up.

Something like this SHOULD be done from a forward thinking perspective, but how it will be done is the fatal issue.
