I wonder how long will we keep celebrating it? 100 more years? 200? 300? a 1000 years?

The year for the United States should be 1783. To declare unilaterally independence doesn’t mean being really independent.

    3. What’s the longest streak of days where every day is independence from Britain day for someone?

Many of those countries would benefit now from a government without the crazy corruption that holds them back. Just sayin…

You’re speaking of days, so the information on the map is pretty much unrelated. It would be more interesting if it’d show the whole date or just day/month.

    6. Ireland does not have a national day on which it celebrates independence from Britain.

      There’s something,
the United States is first in.
      Being independent from Great Britain.

We don’t celebrate independence in Ireland, because of partition.

    9. Canada doesn’t celebrate independence from Britain in practice. Nominally we have a day for the Statute of Westminster (which is what the 1931 in the post refers to) but nobody would be aware said day exists if it wasn’t written in calendars. Our national holiday celebrates the creation of the Dominion of Canada which was an internal reorganization within the empire and definitely not independence.

    10. Wrong flag for South Yemen (Aden). Yemen was never colonized by any European country.

Love how South Africa’s independence is given a different year in each post of this nature.

South Africa does not meaningfully celebrate its independence from the British Empire.

it’s interesting how historical demographics often challenge modern narratives

interesting historical context, it’s always eye-opening to see how demographics have shifted over time

    14. Maybe a few places they just celebrate independence. Not from somebody, just now being independent. Many of these places was people fighting everyday againt each other, for simple survival.
