What a surreal contrast. Kids playing just a few meters from a WW2 mass grave.

What is the process here? Like how did they detect there are skeletons in that location? And another stupid question: why are the mouths opened? I thought if you die and your mouth is closed (and your teeth as well), usually it stays like that, kind of locked in that position. Did they die like that? (with their mouth very open)?

Death is wild

I’m sorry in advanced if this might sound unrelated or insensitive, but those teeths are still really white, even when the photos were taken from quite a wide angle, I can still see how white and clean they are. Is teeth really that hard to decay compared to other bones?

doesn’t look like 6 feet under.
and no local knowledge of bone finds when they built the house a few meters away?

What’s wild is that they’re not even buried that deep. Some construction workers would stumble upon them if they were ever burying a cable or a gas line there.

I wonder who they were, who loved them, clearly they never knew what happened to them, but they could probably guess. People are awful to each other.

That grill and children swings are just so absurd from this perspective….

The one with the wide open mount is definitely freaky.

Looks like a foundation was built mere milimeters next to the body on the right. Nothing was found at the time of that building or it was just built on top of remains?

this reminds me of a fun story: my father had this handyman guy from some Polish nowheresville (Stare Brynki) and he was a chill simpleton smoking pipe and living alone with his dog. Once we were visting him and he was eager to show us something in the garage. Turns out he dug out a corpse of a nazi from his garden – skeleton, helmet, uniform, documents in pockets, everything intact. My dad started freaking out and the dude was all chill and giggly about it. He said he found him a week ago. Dude was living a whole week with a nazi corpse under his roof like it’s nothing. Though he said he started hearing voices and heavy military boots walking around his attic. My dad suggested it might be the nazi ghost haunting him and the dude shrugged it off and said „no way, cause the voices are russian, not german“. It was 15 years ago, idk what happened to that body though

Mouth full of white teeth. They were so young. Doesn’t matter which side…War knows no winners.

Is there more data to this find except for single photo?
Because it does not look like „mass grave“, more like regular grave from WW2 where soldiers were buried on the spot they died.

Ok, found it my self.
So it is „mass grave“ in the sens that it was up to 22 soldiers, not like a site intended to conceal mass casualties. And it is not clear from that description if those 22 was on that one site or multiple sites in the general area. So much better words would be „collective grave“ or „group burial“. But it is Reddit so a) you can’t fi it now and b) people (and bots) will always find a way to twist it if they wish.
Here is a source page (in Polish) [https://www.pomost.net.pl/376,luban.html](https://www.pomost.net.pl/376,luban.html) and if you scroll down and click on „ZOBACZ GALERIĘ ZDJĘĆ“ you can see more pictures from the excavation site.

I’m just feeling sorry. For the Kids and Old Men who where drafted into the Volkssturm and I’m sorry for everyone who suffered from this Fail of Mankind. Its just horrible all together.

I am surprised that they didn’t retrieve their boots before burying them. The volkssturm was equipped with whatever they could get their hands on, including uniforms, so burying a corpse without retrieving his military boots is a bit surprising I think.

Great! Now the whole neighbourhood will be haunted!

Hopefully they can be identified and moved to a proper war cemetary. Wrong side of war, but deserve a proper resting place
