People like that getting away barely with a slap on their wrists but God forbid you don’t pay the TV tax… What a joke of a legal system we got.

How the fuck Do you get two additional driving offenses after hitting a child?
I’d just surrender my license at that point.

She actually tried to blame the mother of the girl she knocked down

Had to google this but some countries with legalised weed have impairment levels set at between 1.0 ng/ml and 5.0 ng/ml. So she didn’t smoke a couple days ago, she was blazed when she hit a kid

The „tested positive for cannabis“ is irrelevant. I mean that in the following way, she was clearly not high even it showed up in your system and she can’t use as an excuse for acting like a cunt. She clearly just is one and a dangerous one to have driving a car.

I was almost ready to defend the „tested positive“ part til i read the article.
We have a ridiculous policy of zero tolerance so you may lose your license even if you smoked two days ago and arent even impaired.
In this case she was clearly fucked though and had no business being behind a wheel.

Please tell me she will be banned from driving for a long period of time. If not, what’s the point?

I like how she blamed the girls mother for letting her cross ahead of her (the mother). „There could have been a bus coming.“ Yes, or a reckless bitch.

They actually wheeled out the had a bad childhood defense…
What about the little girl you smacked with your car speeding up a bus lane. Cunt.
The little girl needs weekly injections to stop blood cloths. This women should have to pay for all expenses involved.

And I’m sure Tusla will very proactive in protecting her four children from a mother found to be using, and driving under the influence, illegal substances.

Aw poor Charlene can’t afford to pay for the urine test. No problem paying for her cannabis though. Hopefully she will actually jail time & finally banned from driving.

Ok fair bad for hitting a child but just demonising cannabis is a bit much.
She tested positive, yes but by no means was it as increased as someone who would be considered ‚high‘. So she may have participated recently before the incident and just had it lingering in her system. Cannabis can take up to 3 months to exit properly and most drug tests are sensitive to it or designed around it.
We need to legalise it at this point, use the taxes to fund public transport then to take cars off the road

I am always warning my kids, now teens, just because the man is green, does not mean it’s fully safe to cross. You have to assume the worst and still check. I actually saw an army truck break a pedestrian lights in Rathmines and hit a Man, thankfully the man was ok and survived.

How is knocking down and killing someone not manslaughter and then charged upped for being high. The charges against is a disgrace and complete injustice

I’m just in utter shock
The woman made every excuse under the sun not to acknowledge the harm she had done.

Two more driving offenses after HITTING a child.
The license should be revoked

Proving she had cannabis in her system is not proving she was under the influence at the time.
Gonna play devils advocate and say it was a urine test over a blood test because she said it was the night before. 21ng would not stay in your blood stream that long. THC in urine is different when detected in blood. Simply having it in your system while driving, even if ingested days ago, is still a crime. Doesn’t mean she was inebriated

I hate when cannabis gets the blame for stupid people. Cannabis stays in your system for 30 days. It makes no sense to have the above statement…

Fucking lock her up!

One thing to note about this, 21.3 ng/ml of cannabis in her system would be significant if she was an infrequent user, however if she’s a habitual smoker, this could mean she has not smoked in the last 12 hours.
Having a limit of zero cannabis in a users system is counter productive. A heavy user would have to wait *weeks* before their blood or saliva registered a zero for a cannabis test.
I personally think the law needs to change on this, especially if we go down the route of legalization.

Where the fuck are the cameras protecting bus lanes and traffic lights coupled with automatic fines already? This is cheep (~€30K per camera), effective, internationally proven technology that would pay for itself near instantly given the unfortunate truth that this kind of scumbag is far too prevalent in our cities. Driving has become abysmal in our cities and absolutely zero seems to be getting done to address it.

The more I read this article, the more depressing it became. A 3 year old’s life was changed forever, and what shocked me most was the apparent lack of remorse shown by the driver.
floor-pi on
I really don’t understand the hate this person is getting. It was obviously an unintentional accident and realistically, a 3 year old shouldn’t be crossing any road unassisted, nevermind such a busy main road that has bus lanes and cycle lanes.
It also says „The trio reached the central point, with a number of cars coming to a stop to allow them to cross“, and that a lollypop lady normally allows people to cross. It doesn’t say that the driver drove through a red light.
Therefore it sounds like the pedestrians crossed the road without a light to cross, and cars were stopping arbitrarily to allow them to cross. I’ve seen several accidents in such circumstances where drivers take it upon themselves to direct traffic/people. This is very dangerous.
Lastly, she was travelling 50km/h on a 50km/h road. The court heard that it’s actually 30km/h during certain hours. There are no signs on Google Maps showing this, and a circular from DCC was shown to the court. Are there signs showing this speed change?

I love that Canabis makes the headline and not the fact that the driver was not prosecuted. She shouldn’t be driving regardless.
longjohn2024_ on
As a general point. Pedestrian crossings in Ireland are an absolute death trap and I think there needs to be a safety advisory in place to tell people only start walking when cars have come to a complete stop.
I’ve seen 5 incidents lately at the two ones closest to me where people have ploughed straight through with walkers already entered the walkway.
One lady was on her phone and never stopped at all, all most hit 3 people. Others just not looking at the road at all or oblivious to the rules of the road
