Great post, but this should be sourced. Did you use AI to make the map? Where’s the information come from?

It is an important and fascinating reminder that the Nazi party was democratically elected. I wonder how much fuckery there was at the time in the democratic process, with things like ballots etc. I’m sure there was, but was it still a legitimate democratic win? Probably.

Important to note that the Nazis didn’t win a majority. The conservatives formed a coalition with the Nazis to enable Hitler’s rise to power.

      Don’t trust conservatives.

I find it interesting that a lot of Bavaria didn’t vote for the Nazis. Anyone know why that is?

Minor nitpick: you called it the Nazi party when it’s a weimer Republic election map, and the other names are accurate to the ballot. In 1933 (or actually pretty much the entire history of the Nazi party), Germans never referred to it as the Nazi party as they thought it was an insult. To anyone in Germany who voted in this election it would have been known as the NSDAP (National Socialist Workers Party of Germany), or simply the National Socialist party.

That being said I get why you called it that since everyone calls it the Nazi party nowadays. But that wasn’t what would have been on the ballot or to anyone in Germany at the time.

I’d be interested to compare this map to support for the modern AfD party in the present. I would imagine it’s pretty similar looking, and that’s probably why the major parties are all terrified of them.

So the expulsion of Germans from the land awarded to Poland after the war was justified given the strong support for the Nazis there.

    7. I find curious that the higher voting to the Nazi party was in zones at the Northeast that were assigned to Poland after second world War. Bad election.

    8. You’d think Hitler would have been better leading the Black-White-Red Struggle Front.

    9. It’s interesting that the eastern part seem more pro Nazi, and now that part is not part of Germany anymore.

bavaria’s strong catholic identity played a big role in their voting patterns

    11. I always love how so unabashedly catholic Warmia/Ermland is in East Prussia. You can always see them on German maps.

The other radical left takeover was in Russia where Bolsheviks had 24% support. In both countries the radical left managed to take the power.
