I dunno why people go on cruise ships lol. They’ve always been floating petri dishes
The Cruise ship industry has had a horrible few weeks hasn’t it
Another virus?! But which one am I meant to be scared is the next COVID?!
EDIT: I am aware that pandemics on the scale of COVID are extremely rare and these recent outbreaks are routine by virology standards, but the point is you wouldn’t know that from social media or the news where every new viral outbreak is treated as a new global pandemic.
If someone’s died from it isn’t it more likely to be food poisoning?
Reason 101 why I’d never go on a cruise ship. Is there ever a case where someone doesn’t get the shits?
It’s a bit like turkey’s voting for Christmas, when the elderly book a cruise.
I think I’d rather have norovirus than go on a cruise ship.
Having to deal with both must be rough.
I was seriously considering going for a my first cruise soon to try it out, getting a lot less keen on the idea now though
6 weeks from now the nono virus will break out too
I always wanted to go on cruise when I was younger.. Then covid happened and I saw just how much people don’t care about infecting others. Cruises disgust me now.
A woman coughed directly in my face yesterday while we were both dropping our kids off at school. People are gross.
From the article:
*Ambassador has confirmed to LBC that a **92-year-old British passenger had died** aboard the vessel, with around 50 further passengers on board thought to have contracted a norovirus bug.*
92! Still very sad for the family. But not terrifying in itself.
Expect any illness on any cruise to be reported on atm till it falls out the media sphere again
Just a reminder that you only ever hear of the bad cruise experiences. 100’s happen every day with no issues at all.
Not the best place for that to happen, any bug involving older or vulnerable people they usually need to have intervention early, even your bog standard cold/flu.
Less the virus itself which kills people its the accompanying dehydration which generally also means UTI’s because you aren’t urinating properly and your body accumilates bacteria down there and then the cascade as kidneys pack up etc
That said, serious as it is, I do feel the media is oversensationalising it because of the Henta story
Anyone with loved ones either living in or working in care homes or similar settings knows about noro, been around ages like it took a whole advertising/publicity campaign with the pandemic and infection control to remind the rest about handwashing/basic hygene what some of us had known/been doing out of habit for years, nobody wants to take nasties to their frail loved ones.
It would be easy to assume it was a hygene issue with the ship itself, but with noro whats prob happenned is patient zero bought it on board with them. Like how you see people who use the toilet yet don’t wash their hands, or that dirty sod digging around in their arse, are you in trouble if they handle food let alone on a cruise ship.
Or that person in your job who despite repeated warnings was made to come in sick and is now using your shared kitchen.
Also you kinda need to shit everything out, so this isn’t something you can just chuck imodium at willy nilly
My mum is going on a cruise ship tomorrow so uhh…. I hope this doesn’t happen😀
Been on a couple of cruises, first one it was where manners went to die, mainly old people that clearly forgot how to be nice. Never been shoved out the way (literally) by pensioners so many times in my life
That’s like the 3rd cruiseship outbreak I’ve seen headlines for this week, either it’s just getting reported more cause it’s trending, or something weird’s going on.
Nice to know the winter fuel allowance is finally going towards something I can find personally satisfying
And people question why I don’t ever want to go on a cruise???
This shit has been happening for decades
People are always trapped on cruise ships – that’s literally how they work. You board with 100’s / 1000’s of other people, and apart from a few hours offshore at a predetermined stop every other day, you spend every single waking moment with them or in your own wee prison cell, hopefully with a window, hopefully to the sea view. They are the opposite to freedom and feel like you are paying for prison conditions albeit with more buffet options and shitey dancing.
Lot of cruise Trouble lately but no one peep about the Disney nonce cruise
Am I meant to be sad about a bunch of people putting themselves in a dangerous situation out of desire to go on an extended holiday, meaning they were likely people wealthy enough to go on an extended holiday in the middle of the year in the first place?
Let them stay there til it burns itself out, did we learn nothing from the Eat Out to Help Out fiasco?
It’s only fatal for people aged 65 and above because of severe dehydration
Cruise ships and garden centres. Where people go to die.
Why are we still taking cruises? Seems like an awful time to me.
Guys please, please stop getting on fucking cruises
