This is such a misleading headline. But I’m not surprised that it’s coming from the likes of CTVNews.
NES, yes, did state that he would be resigning his federal seat this summer, but this has been in the works for a while. None of that has anything to do with the present GTA nomination loss and resulting fiasco that the OLP finds itself in.
The headline, as it reads–implying some causation–is absolute bunk.
>Asked by Kapelos whether he still wants to lead the party, he said: “It’s a good question.”
“I’ve grappled with this,” he said. “I don’t know that I have a perfect answer for this, because obviously, I want to deliver change across Ontario. I’ve not been shy about that.”
“I’m not sure that the Ontario Liberal Party wants as much changes as I do,” he also said.
Pressed on whether that means he hasn’t closed the door on the possibility of a run for the leadership, Erskin-Smith said: “I’m not sure. We’ll see.”
He added the prospect of him running for the Ontario Liberal leadership is “much less likely” now than it was before the weekend.
I’m curious what his reasoning is for possibly not deciding to run for OLP leader.
Maybe he’s disheartened with how much hell the OLP establishment is giving him? It’s got to be draining, even having media outlets like the Toronto Star writing back to back hit pieces to discredit him. It’s got to be exhausting when all you want to do is make a difference, but the elites in charge don’t want the status quo to change at all.
I hope he wins his challenge of the SSW nomination and it works to call out the corruption, if true. And. Hope he runs anyways, because if successful, he’s prime to sell himself as a change candidate. But if he doesn’t, I hope he inspires others to take up the torch for much needed change in the OLP.
In a political world saturated with rehearsed sound bites, word salads that mean nothing, corruption, and fakeness, I hope NES inspires more authenticity in our leaders. Because everytime an authentic leader comes along, it’s just a breath of fresh air.
Wonder if he’ll stick around to pass what will likely be called Bill C-(32-34), which should be in the form of an omnibus bill that will contain be the government’s proposed legislative changes to the regulatory system amongst other things.

This is why I really like Erskine-Smith!! You don’t hear this kind of honesty from politicians often. I actually have trust in him compared to most other politicians.
I hope his appeal of the results in successful and he does decide to run for the OLP. We need leaders like him in politics so badly!!
I wonder when the Liberals are lining up the next round of byelections for. You’d think they’d want to run these at the same time as Boulerice’s, but then that conflicts with the Quebec election. I guess November seems most likely, but the seats will be vacant for a while.

I wonder if Marit Stiles might reach out to him. LPC scooped an ONDP MPP from her, so why not grab a soon to be former LPC MP? It might bring the ONDP more attention from the media than they are used to getting and might help show that they are a now a viable option, as they are in other provinces.
The identity politics guy got identity-politicked in his own riding. A painful lesson to learn. He’s toast.
The Liberals have shifted to the centre, he’d be at home with the greens or NDP.
