Ein kleines Bild einer Galaxie, das durch Gravitationslinsen zu einem schwachen Ring verzerrt wurde. An der Spitze des Rings befinden sich direkt nebeneinander drei sehr helle Flecken mit Beugungsspitzen: Dies sind Kopien eines einzelnen Quasars in der Linsengalaxie, dupliziert durch die Gravitationslinse. In der Mitte des Rings erscheint die elliptische Galaxie, die die Linse bildet, als kleiner blauer Punkt. Der Hintergrund ist schwarz und leer.

Gravitational lensing shots like this never get old, nature’s own telescope.
I’ll never tire of the exploratory shots of deep in the universe. I get so jealous of people who live where light pollution doesn’t make it impossible to use a telescope. Some day I hope to move somewhere that I can enjoy the night sky in total darkness. This is another picture that I will save as a wallpaper for my phone.
