      i’ve been turned away once in busan for samgyup. they said i had to order THREE servings. i was used to the two-servings reqt

      There seem to be a few issues getting conflated here. One is about trying to eat food that is traditionally meant for more people. Avoid these options and there’s a ton of other stuff to eat. Or show an understanding that you’d have to order the minimum and it’s normally ok.

      Another is that places that do serve individual portions being reluctant to seat individual diners. This is understandable from the restaurant’s point of view but more problematic.

      I’d avoid places with signs like that, even if I was dining with several friends. Imagine what kind of service they provide if they make sure that *that* sign the first thing customers see. That place screams „Out of business in two months.“

      The sign’s 4th line is just insulting. Bring your wife next time? Just eat somewhere else and let these bigots close down.

    5. I get that some food items are meant to serve multiple portions, like a lot of barbeque places obviously have tables and firepit meant for more than one person and side menus meant for one. I think it’s just easier for both the restaurant and diners to put up clear up-front signs whether solo diners are welcome or not.

      It sucks to pay and be unwelcomed. Places that welcome solo diners can gain their target customers. and vice versa.
