      Cause costs go up and wages don’t catch up. Honestly for the same price why not choose something else, hell some of the more independent stores are providing way better deals. Another thing is customers especially younger customers have a more refined taste I feel and wanting to try different things. They want to try ramen, tacos, burgers and the type. Plus alot more health conscious consumers.

      Honestly I feel we need to figure out a new eocnomic model that is different from the inflationary system to actually address quality of life issues. Hell even experiment with deflation.

      Because they’re no long quick and cheap and expect you to tip 50% of the meals cost each time you go.

      People are being forced to cook meals at home to save money. If they want more people to spend more, then they need to pay people more.

      Heck, I enjoyed my McDonald’s breakfast this morning. And I cook almost everything from scratch at home! It’s one of those treats we enjoy. And judging from the surroundings lots of others feel the same.

      Being asked to tip on takeout is a big reason why I simply refuse to eat out.

      If only these places paid their employees enough that for a 1/2 hour of work they could afford a meal…

      There are far too many restaurants, especially fast food, based on a low wage model. That’s why the numbers have expanded so much and there are not enough customers per restaurant to continue. Time for a massive correction. I don’t think anyone would miss them if 70% of the fast food joints disappeared overnight.

      I don’t go to any store that employs a bunch of TFWs. If they don’t have local employees they don’t get my money. I want to support places where my kids and students can get a chance at a job. Not a large corporation taking advantage of everyone and everything possible in the search for ever increasing profits.

      Every one is forgetting that because of the federal funding under Covid we simply have too many restaurants – some were artificially kept solvent. Now we have inflation again and they want a big tip each time. I even make coffee at home pretty much all the time

      I think since the pandemic we’ve seen a squeezing out of the middle option in restaurants and in many other entertainment and leisure options. People either want quick and cheap prepared food from a grocery store, for example, or an expensive sit down meal with all the trappings as an occasional treat. The days of going a few times a month to a sit-down restaurant like Applebee’s with the family are probably over.

      McDonald’s needs to learn its place. $16 for a meal when a proper burger is $20…

      A lot of quick-service restaurants are franchise locations that did not open based on need, but opened because the business owner wanted to manage their own store with a staff of international workers, like two Tim Hortons stores in the middle of nowhere within two feet of each other. This does not help the local community because they don’t hire from that worker pool, and there is no need for them. They just serve the franchise owner, large corporations in general, and fill up the local rent market making it unnecessarily harder for everyone in the community.

      It’s the lack of food safety the last few years that keeps me away, not the prices.

      It’s not like this everywhere but I feel like in the GTA, there are simply too many restaurants and the market doesn’t need them all. I live in Mississauga and there are Tim Hortons across the street from Tim Hortons in plaza’s with multiple Pizza options. I’m not saying the economy isn’t bad or a factor but some of this has to do with what the market needs and can bare

      Way too many places just sell the same slop from GFS with little variation, chains with unique items are especially cost cut/profit maxxed to the end of the earth.

      With ever worse service while costs rise far, far above inflation.

      And so often places are just hard set on hiring the absolute cheapest labor they can exploit. They arent winning on cost, service or quality.

      Its not even a matter of people voting with their wallets, these places are straight up living in delulu land.

      Tell me why I would go to McDonalds when I can walk into a local donair joint, get a better meal for the same price, take less time, and support a local small business?

      100% the cost of living is having an impact. We used to do take out every Friday. But it just became too expensive and the quality of the food has dropped.
      Haven’t had take out in 2 months now. And we suddenly realized how much money we have saved because of that. We just eat everything at home now.
