Why can’t we change the rules so Canada Post has a monopoly to serve all of Canada. Amazon and other corporations only serve profitable routes and leave Canada Post on rural and remote locations. So obviously Canada Post is going to lose money if they are being out competed in cities and are left with only unprofitable routes.
Companies that want to do so delivery in Canada should be forced to service every postal code.

Why is this positioned as „to stay afloat?“ We don’t talk like this when it comes to something like the military. Postal service is a *service*, not something designed to bring us direct profit.

Outlaw commercial entities that do not serve EVERYWHERE. This is a sparce country. Either we government it or let someone else will.

Breaking News: National Service Costs Money to Run
Next do the military, hospitals, road work crews, national park staff, public libraries, fire departments, correctional facilities, police departments and border security.

Its a fucking service 🙄 not designed to make money! And you shouldn’t care that its not. This is a bs talking point.

Another payout. Don’t know how to feel. What I do wonder with post, is with their contract being voted on, which doesn’t end until the end of May. Do they accept it, or reject it.

Every time Canada post finds something profitable (Purolator, for example), it’s spun off and privatized. With that in mind it’s ridiculous to expect them to be profitable. Run it as a public service and fund it through taxes on its competitors (Fedex, UPS, Canpar, Purolator, DHL, etc.)

Bezos licking his lips watching everyone hate on Canada Post so he can take over as the next best option and force you to subscribe to prime to get your mail.

To all the people who repeatedly say that it’s a public service and you wouldn’t criticize federal spending on other public services: yes you would, if they had a similar cost-benefit profile with similar efficiency levels, forced to operate inefficiently by unions stuck in an alternate reality.
This talking point is so overused and nonsensical. You DO expect public services to have sustainable business models. You DO expect the benefit to outweigh its costs. You DO expect them to run efficiently, as every dollar spent there represents opportunity cost in other areas.
It’s exactly this mentality that allows our government to get away with frivolous spending, racking up the national debt to levels that will take decades to pay off.
