  1. With 140 votes in favor, 54 against, and 1 abstention, the National Assembly elected Péter Magyar as prime minister.

(Tisza has 141 seats in the parliament)

Orban and his allies will probably go to the United States and work in one of the MAGA think tanks

  3. In just two years, he built a movement and then a party, dismantled the old opposition, and defeated the ruling party which had virtually unlimited money and resources. Tisza did it without funding from the government, NGOs, or institutions. The party’s only sources of income were monthly donations and a webshop. Also, we must not forget that none of this would have been possible without the over 50,000 volunteers who spread the word at their own expense in the heat, snow, and rain.

Starting from nothing, Tisza Party now holds 141 out of 199 mandates, the largest share of seats ever won by a party in Hungary in a legitimate election.

And now Tisza is polling at 70%.

This will surely be taught in history books.

This was Fidesz’s first position on Magyar:

„The government does not deal with the desperate attempts of people in a hopeless situation“

He has also been the target of multiple smear campaigns, ranging from accusations of beating his ex-wife to claims that he is a puppet of Zelenskyy and wants to send children to war to die.

Fidesz has also produced multiple AI-generated smear videos about him.

This is the description of one of the AI videos that Fidesz made:

In the video, a little girl asks her mother, who is slicing mushrooms in the kitchen, when her father will be home, to which she replies with tears in her eyes, „soon.“ We then see Hungarian soldiers in uniform being transported to the front by helicopter, where an officer wearing a World War II-style Nazi uniform shoots the father in the head as he clutches a photo of his little girl. The caption reads, „War takes everything away from everyone. Let’s not take any chances! Fidesz is the safe choice.“

Fidesz shared the video with the comment, „This is just a nightmare now, but Brussels is preparing to make it a reality.“

Also, this is the title of an „article“ from one of Fidesz’s hate campaign websites:

Stinkbug [refering to Magyar] found out that today is Mother’s Day, so he quickly started kissing his dear communist whore of a mother for likes.

There are even worse ones than this but Reddit would ban me if I wrote them down here.

  4. With that, the longest serving prime minister in the EU is now Andrej Plenkovic, who has been the prime minister of Croatia since 19.10.2016

  5. Awesome. We finally have a prime minister once more. We haven’t had one for sixteen years.

  6. Powerful speech, loving the looks at the Fidesz camp. He keeps making eye contact with them lol.

The Fidesz block doesn’t even stand when the new PM spoke. And now a disadvantaged children’s group is playing music in the Parliament and the scoundrels in the Fidesz block barely stood or clapped (and only did when their group leader did).

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ better days for Hungary and the EU are hopefully ahead

  9. He needs to put them in jail or they will come back stronger and take the country back over.

    Happened to us in Croatia.

Well that’s a bad picture of Magyar. Almost makes him look like Orban.

I am honestly still surprised how quickly Orban just accepted defeat.

No claims of election fraud, no pulling last any minute moves like using his 2/3 majority to e.g. say that any constitutional law requires 3/4 majority to change to make it harder for Magyar to work.

Some analysts speculated that Orban could do exactly the latter before Magyar becomes PM. This way his government would have a hard time getting rid of all the Orban allies in the courts, which in turn would make Magyar‘s goals nearly unachievable. This in turn could lead to a ever growing dissatisfaction among the people which Orban could use in 4 years when the next election is to try a comeback.

    But none of this happened.
