Yucatán peninsula seems like it would be isolated and inconvenient.

Damn that’s cool lol. Cabo in the United States would be nuts

  3. Is there any reason why they wanted so much of Mexico? It’s wild to think how much land we’ve already taken from them I couldn’t imagine taking more

Is this sub just filled with manifest destiny supporters? That was not a positive thing lol

The history of the United States intervention and attempts at annexing Cuba is fascinating. Cuba becoming a US state/colony was always the plan.

  6. >In four short years he met his every goal
He seized the whole southwest from Mexico
    Made sure the tariffs fell
    And made the English sell
    The Oregon territory
    He built an independent treasury
Having done all this he sought no second term
But precious few have mourned the passing of
Mister James K. Polk, our 11th president
Young Hickory, Napoleon of the Stump

I can’t image how rich an area Cabo San Lucas would be if it were in the US.

Why the odd curves around Mexico and Cuba why not take the Bahama and other islands? I mean would have been interesting to see how different the USA would be and if everyone got the same development

Fun fact: One of the reasons this didn’t happen was because in Cuba and Mexico were too many catholics and black people.

  10. This is missing “54° 40’ or Fight!”

He campaigned on demanding Oregon Territory should go up that far north or we would go to war with Britain. But after starting a war with Mexico he compromised to the 49° parallel. I think that was his biggest broken “promise” but in a way no one really cared about the exact latitude – the treaty at least settled the dispute.

The Confederacy was infinitely worse to be fair. But yes the same Union also would have massacred the indigenous peoples of Northern Mexico the way they did in the US

Honestly, these parts of modern day Mexico would be geographically hard to control.

I would have taken Baja California and the tip of Yucatan/Cancun a la Ceuta, Spain and called it a day!

Everytime I drive up Vancouver Island from Victoria and hit Ladysmith I think this could’ve been a border crossing. Thank God it isn’t.

  14. It’s a 41 dash line historical map! Must mean that The Peoples Republic of America has undisputed sovereignty.

  15. Honestlly, it’d be more realistic to go down to Panama rather than a random border through the jungle and carribean.

Good way to enforce the Monroe doctrine lol.

I know it’s like evil imperialism and everything but having Cuba as a state would have been kind of cool
