  1. I have a college diploma and probably applied to a couple hundred jobs both in my field and outside my field and only got maybe 3 calls back, none of which were within my field of study.

In Cross’s view, two forces collided. Higher minimum wages across most provinces reduced employer demand for workers in some sectors like retail and restaurants. While, a surge in international students dramatically expanded the pool of people competing for those same jobs.

“Ask any economist and they’ll tell you: if you suddenly increase supply and depress demand at the same time, you’re going to have a very bad outcome,” he says. “And that’s exactly what’s happened in this country over the last three or four years.”

So, then do not allow international students to work while attending school??? I mean that would be the fastest fix AND the federal government could do it instantly with Bill C12.

How about creating a tinder link job app that is at a federal level. So that employers and employees alike can meet greet across Canada and fill those positions? It would end the need for about 90% of LMIA applications because the pool would be Canada wide not limited to a province.

If someone were to create JobTinder app, they would be rich.

Ex mil , years of humanitarian exp, masters, bunch of certs, and working outside my direct field. It’s impossible to even get an entry level position in my field, even before it’s recent destruction via funding cuts.

Rough out in these streets. Though my own business seems to be taking off.

I remember applying several hundreds of times when I was fresh out of school.

Ignore what boomers say about increasing the volume of applications. It doesn’t work.

If you don’t intend on working in that position- don’t apply- you are only making the situation worse for the people *who do* want to work at that position.

(And creating frustration for the recruiter sifting through 1000’s of applications)

People need to learn to network- and I mean *actually* develop working relationships with professionals- not just adding someone on LinkedIn.

That is how you get the job you want.
