It’s a total power play. Iran is looking at US peace deals while simultaneously setting up a formal Authority to run the Strait. It’s pretty transparent: they’re building up leverage so they have more to sell at the table. No one goes through the effort of ‚formalizing control‘ over an area they’re ready to give up. They’re making sure that reopening the Strait feels like a massive favor they’re doing for the world, rather than just something that’s supposed to happen.

At this point, the world should pay the tax, call it a good deal, as long as US goes home.
